Reading and Writing
The 6 Traits of Good Writing has been our focus this year to learn more strategies for good writing. Learning about ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, and conventions allows opportunities for continuous individual growth in writing. Another aspect of writing is presentations. Sometimes we print copies to share, sometimes we share orally in the classroom or even with a iPad presentation. This week, students selected one of their stories written this year to send to the Women's Club Writing Contest.
Math
Students learned more about reading thermometers during math. Using the WeatherBug app (a webcam on top of our school provides current conditions/photo of Exeter). Each day, the math meeting person graphs the morning temperature. Practice of -2 facts was done using Wrap-Ups. Another skill worked on this week was similar and congruent figures. Students created overlapping shapes on geoboards and using an app called GeoBoards. Friday's objective, subtracting 10 from a 2-digit number, let students see the importance of subtraction facts.
Social Studies and Science
"Our Country Today" is the topic of our Social Studies' chapter; learning about the different levels of government. This week, Carter's dad, Eric Milton, spoke with the class explaining some of the duties of being the mayor of Milligan. In science students started learning about "Our Natural Resources." These are the new topics to practice on Zondle.
