Youth Sports Update * Fall-Winter '21-'22

We're pleased to share information about our various sports programs throughout the Phoenix-Talent School District. We'll provide participation opportunities for your child as well as ways you can get involved. Participation is open to kids of all ages and abilities.

Registration for Basketball Skills, Softball, Baseball and Soccer Camps

After a successful fall season, it's time for the next round of JPAL Camps!


Fall-Winter Junior Pirate Athletic League camps include basketball skills (grades K-8, starting Nov. 4), baseball/softball (grades K-8, January 8) and soccer (grades K-8, starting Jan. 19) All upcoming camps will all take place at Phoenix High School.


Students from Orchard Hill Elementary, Phoenix Elementary, Talent Elementary and Talent Middle School are invited to participate.


A second JPAL cheerleading camp is coming soon. Watch for dates in the near future.


Cost for any of the upcoming JPAL camps is $25 per student per camp and includes a JPAL t-shirt. Registration is now open. Students will also receive fliers at school about JPAL events.

5 Youth Sports Coordinators hired

We have Youth Sports Coordinators for five sports in the Phoenix-Talent School District.


All five have considerable connections to our school district, including three who are Phoenix High School alums. Our YSC's include Macie Thompson (cheerleading), Jim Redding (wrestling), Ronda Scoggins (baseball/softball), Manny Crump (basketball) and Chris Van Ness (soccer). All have already scheduled JPAL camps.


Duties will helping to facilitate our JPAL camps, organizing competitive teams in their sport, helping to find qualified volunteer coaches and meeting regularly as part of the ongoing discussion of youth sports development in the district.

Phoenix-Talent Youth Sports Meeting

The continuing discussion of youth sports in the Phoenix-Talent School District. Meeting will be held in the library of Phoenix High School.

Free entry for kids in running events

The Southern Oregon Runners hold events throughout the year and offer free entry to students (18 and younger) at all events. The group holds events around the area on a regular basis and welcomes runners of all ages and abilities. This is a great family-friendly activity.

Talent Middle School ready for basketball, wrestling seasons

Sports are being offered during the fall, winter and spring at Talent Middle School.


The fall season is wrapping up and included cross country, football and volleyball. Boys' basketball will be offered in November and December, girls' basketball and wrestling in January and February and track and field in the spring.


An outstanding roster of experienced coaches is working with our student-athletes at TMS. There is no charge to participate in sports at the school. Practices and the majority of contests take place on weekdays.
