Collaborating with ELA Teachers on 20-Title Lists
ELA teachers reached out to the library for help in compiling a list for their 20-title grade-level sets! We are working together to find a variety of high-interest books at a variety of levels for their students. It's a chance to share some exciting new titles in the library. Ms. Alexander's classes spent time sampling novels from the list and offering their input.
"Tis the season for choice novels
The 6th-grade teachers are taking a variety of approaches to choice novels this month. And they've kept the library busy compiling lists and pulling books for their students.
Ms. Aleca Smith has her students doing author studies. Thus the library compiled a list of authors with four or more stand-alone titles to choose from.
Ms. Emily Smith has students reading classics and analyzing why their chosen book has, in fact, been designated a classic.
Ms. Aimee Felio has her students reading popular titles in small groups. The library pulled those titles with multiple copies so students could browse and choose.
It's been a fun month of new discoveries for these students!
2020 Name That Book Team off to a great start
After their blistering defeat in this year's NTB competition, the Krimmel NTB Team assessed their performance, identified their shortcomings, then got busy reading for next year's competition. They're excited about holding onto their own spots and getting a few new team members. And they're already planning mock Skype competitions with the other intermediates.
Scholastic Book Fair wraps up
Despite all the challenges, this year's Scholastic Book Fair was a great success. We were able to award more than $200 in Gift Certificates and a 15% discount to all staff and volunteers. Thank you to the many volunteers who set up tables, hung posters, monitored crowds, and manned the registers!
