FJVD Weekly Info
We Live the Word!
From the Principal's Desk
Dear Father Doyle Families,
I hope you had an opportunity to enjoy the snow day yesterday! In a year that has presented new challenges at every turn, it is so important to relish these moments of respite. Please review our snow day policy to see when distance learning will be utilized in the case of inclement weather.
As we prepare for Christmas, we are grateful for Father Woolley, Father Rowley, and Father J.D. who have been hearing confessions for our students in grades 3-8 over the past month. We are blessed to have this opportunity to prepare our students spiritually for the coming of Christmas!
As a reminder, we have two days of school next week - 12/21 and 12/22 - with no school on Wednesday, December 23rd. Please see below for more information regarding returning from break after the New Year.
Return from Christmas Break
Please be sure to review the email sent to families this morning detailing our return from Christmas break on Monday, January 4th. The email includes important reminders regarding travel and gatherings over the holidays.
Adjustment to the FJVD Screening Tool
In meeting with members of the Department of Health and Educational Operation Center (EdOC) which acts as a liaison between RIDOH and RIDE, we have been advised to change the second question in our screening tool.
Starting on Monday, December 21st, the second question will read as follows:
Has your student had any of the following symptoms in the past three days that are not explained by allergies or non-infectious cause?
Previously, the question had asked if a child had experienced any two of the symptoms listed. If you have any questions regarding whether or not it is appropriate for your child to attend school due to illness, you can always speak with Nurse Patti by calling the school at 401-831-3756 or, if outside school hours, by emailing patticioe@fjvd.org.
Christmas Food Drive Continues!
We are so grateful for the many families who have donated to our Christmas Food Drive. So many local families will benefit from your generosity! Items will continue to be collected in your child's homeroom through December 22nd! See the flyer below for more information!
Please be sure to view additional important information and announcements below!
Have a great weekend everyone!
God bless and Go Saints!
Sincerely,
Mr. Peloquin

Academic Calendar and Important Documents
Updates to Hybrid Learning & Distance Learning Policies
As shared with families via email on Thursday, we have made some adjustments to our Hybrid Learning and Distance Learning Policies and Procedures. You can find those changes outlined in the documents attached below, as well as linked here:
Hybrid Learning Letter to Families
Distance Learning Opt-In Dates
In addition, you can view a brief video summary of the updates here. We hope these changes will help make hybrid and distance learning increasingly manageable and effective for staff, students, and families alike!
Change in Academic Calendar - No School Wednesday, December 23rd
There will be no school Wednesday, December 23rd. Many nearby Catholic schools have opted to take this day as part of Christmas break, and others have moved to take the entire week out from school.
We know that the holidays are already going to be a challenge this year and will likely look different for many of our families. During these stressful and difficult times, we hope this additional day off will be a helpful and appreciated reprieve and an opportunity to spend additional time together as a family.
Please note that our tentative end of school date remains June 16, 2021.
RIDOH Releases New Quarantine Guidance
On December 10, 2020, the Rhode Island Department of Health released new Quarantine Guidance. A detailed summary of this guidance can be found here.
Generally, the guidance allows for:
- 14 Day Quarantine for Immunocompromised and/or Long-Term Care Staff
- 10 Day Quarantine for General Public (while continuing to monitor for symptoms)
- 7 Day Quarantine with Negative Test at least 5 Days After Last Exposure
A reminder that the Department of Health is the only organization that can mandate a person quarantine. The school will continue to address necessary hybrid learning scenarios on a case by case basis in consultation with the Department of Health.
Screening, Travel & Christmas Break
If your child has traveled to a state with a high community spread rate according to the list maintained by RIDOH, they must quarantine for fourteen days. The list of states maintained by RIDOH changes regularly, so please check frequently if you are planning to travel.
Please note that these travel procedures set forth by the Department of Health also apply to travel over the Christmas holiday. If your family is planning to travel during this time, please consider how this travel may impact your child's ability to return to school at the conclusion of break.
If you have questions or concerns regarding RIDOH travel procedures and how they may or may not impact your child, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
Thank you for your continued adherence to these and all of our safety guidelines and procedures. Together, we can work to keep our community safe and healthy in the weeks ahead.
Probable Cases & Testing Procedures
The Department of Health has released additional resources for families regarding how to proceed if your child has symptoms at home or becomes ill at school. You can find the RIDOH Resources for Families here. Please note, if your child is experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 that indicate a probable case, please call 844-857-1814 from 7:30am-9:30pm seven days a week schedule a test through the K-12 Testing Network. You should also notify the school as soon as possible.
If your child is experiencing symptoms and is being tested, two tests will be conducted at the K-12 testing site - a rapid test with results within 24 hours, and a PCR test with results within 48 hours. Please note, students are not permitted to return to school until both tests are negative and symptoms have resolved. In addition, families must complete the After Illness Return Attestation Form which can also be found on the homepage of our school website under "Important Links."
A reminder that our hybrid learning policies for students absent due to illness or quarantine can be found in our Hybrid Learning Guide for Students and Families as well as in a quick reference guide here.

Aluminum Can Tab Collection
What: Aluminum can tabs are being collected
Why: To support the Ronald McDonald House in Providence
How can you help? Save can tabs and send them in to Mr. Godin’s room.
Bottle Cap Drive
We’re excited to share that our school is part of the Coca-Cola Give program. This provides new funding opportunities to help improve learning environments for students. The best part? Donations don’t come out of your own pocket. When you make Coca-Cola purchases, you simply send in bottle caps or product codes from boxes of beverages and our school receives a donation.
All caps and codes should be sent to Mr. Godin. Codes will be entered on one account to gain larger and quicker donations.
Thank you!
