OATS
open source assistive technology software
OATS offers a solution for developers, educators and others on a limited budget by offering free open source assistive technology software
"Since disabilities can impose barriers to full participation in school, at work, and in other important areas of life, it is only fair in an egalitarian society to provide assistive technologies that offer ways to surmount those barriers, and create a more level playing field"

Building an online community to increase opportunity
OATS is a great platform to proactively share ideas addressing the need for all kinds of assistive technology. Certain individuals require assistive technologies throughout their entire educational careers, they are not just resources that are used sporadically as a recreational aid (Issues in Digital Technology in Education/Assistive Technology in Education: A Critical Analysis of the "Highs" and the "Lows"). There will always be a need to continue to build upon and improve existing technologies, especially to promote educational equality. OATS is a great resource for developers, educators, and parents alike. I would work to promote the platform in schools and among parent resource groups. I would encourage these groups to collaborate to find free assistive technology solutions for the various needs they face. This would be especially valuable in schools that face lower budgets as well as low income communities.
