TEA’s Proposed Changes on Student Performance Standards for STAAR
The Texas Education Agency has proposed an amendment to replace the current phase-in schedule of standards (phase-in 1; phase-in 2; phase-in 3) with a progression approach. The new progression approach to increase standards will occur for all subjects’ grades 3-8 and EOC. The first year of implementation is scheduled to begin during the 2015-2016 school-year and to be completed upon attaining the Level II recommended standard in 2021-2022.
During that period, there will be annual and consistent incremental increases towards the final recommended Level II performance standard. The Level III advanced performance standard will remain the same.
Because of the pending changes, the Planning and Research Department has begun to implement the new standards in Compass. The reports reflecting the new pending standards will be available by Monday, November 2nd, 2015 at the earliest.
The implementation of the standard progression approach and the ability to access this data in Compass will be discussed at the next Principal’s meeting on November 12th, 2015 in greater detail.

Caught Being a Leader
The 52nd annual Coker Fair was a tremendous event as a result of the commitment of all stakeholders to include the staff members who volunteered their time to run a booth. The fair would not have been a success without your commitment and partnership with the PTA. It brought joy to my heart to see the former Cubs become giddy at the sight of their former teachers!
What a wonderful way to capture the memories made at the fair this year, than through a highlight reel produced by our very own Deanna Schattel! Thank you for the pictures of Cubs of all ages who came out rain or shine!
Coaching Day Success
It was great to work with the Lighthouse Team, Environment Action Team, Curriculum Action Team, Leadership Day Action Team and Parent Night Action Team! I felt like we were able to accomplish many goals today. Each action team was able to plan their first and next steps and each team member was able to reconnect with the LiM purpose.
Next Steps--
all teams should brief their grade levels about our Coaching Day
discuss the Leadership Day and Parent Night events that were scheduled
plan to meet as an action team for future planning and follow up as needed
share ideas for enhancing the campus environment as a grade level (painted murals, banners, graphics, flags, bulletin boards, display case, etc).; LiM Environment Action Team Members please submit 2-4 photos of your ideas to Tiffany at tgill@neisd.net by Tuesday, November 17th.
