A Message from the Superintendent
May 25, 2022
Yesterday the community of Uvalde, Texas experienced the horrific tragedy of a school shooting that took the lives of 19 students and two adults. As a parent, grandfather, and educator, my heart is aching for what these families are experiencing, which I can only describe as my greatest fear.
Our thoughts and prayers remain with the students, families, staff, first responders, and community of Uvalde, Texas. There are no words that can express the sorrow felt across our nation right now. We stand beside the Uvalde community as they walk through this unfathomable tragedy.
We want to assure the CCPS Community that our school system has an unwavering commitment to maintaining a safe and secure environment for our students and staff. We will continue to take every proactive measure to enhance the security of our facilities and the preparedness of our students and staff.
We know that our families may be seeking more information as to what specific measures we have in place in Cecil County Public Schools. If you would like to learn more, please CLICK HERE to view a quick reference document that we have compiled from our Safe Schools program, policies, and procedures. If you have additional questions, I would encourage you to reach out to your child's principal, who will be able to share with you in greater detail what they have in place at your child's school.
I ask that we each continue to keep the Uvalde community in our thoughts and prayers in the days ahead.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jeffrey Lawson, Ed.D.
