News and events - Aug. 26
Open House Information
Open House at Jackson Middle School is on Tuesday, August 30, from 6 – 8 pm. This event is very informal and provides an opportunity for students to find classrooms, meet teachers, try lockers, and familiarize themselves with the building. Parking is available either in the east or west parking lots as well as at Champlin Park High School. We typically have a very good turn out for Open House and are expecting a large crowd.
Open House is also a great time for families to visit: JMS Health Office, visit the Jackson Middle School Observatory, get JMS Fundraiser information, gather Community Education information, and sign up for Volunteer Opportunities.
Schedules and locker assignments are now available online.
Administrative & Counseling Support - who to call
Jackson Middle School will be changing the service delivery model of Administrative & Counseling support for students and families for the coming 2022-2023 school year. JMS will be moving away from an Assistant Principal and a Counselor to a grade-level, to a model based upon a portion of the alphabet.
While this model will be new and present different ways of doing business for staff and parents at JMS, the focus is to strengthen school-family relationships. This service model is designed to accommodate families by providing the convenience and stability for entire families to work with a single administrator and a single counselor.
We are here to support and serve you and your student. Please contact your student’s assigned administrator or counselor if you have any questions or concerns.
Bus Pass Information
Bus pass information will be mailed out to all families today, August 26. Parents/Guardians can also look up bus pass information in Parent VUE beginning today as well.

Note from the School Nurse
If you plan for your student to have medication at school, please plan to drop off your student’s medication during Open House or before the first day of school. All medication must arrive in the original packaging. Prescription medication needs to have a pharmacy label with the student’s name and directions for giving it. Prescription medication needs both a signed physician’s order and parental permission. Over the counter medications need parental permission. Reminder: students are able to carry up to two doses of Tylenol or Ibuprofen with them. The medication authorization forms can be found and printed here.
Middle School Football Reminder
All middle school students need to be accompanied by a paying adult to purchase a high school football ticket for all games. Each adult will be allowed to purchase up to 4 student tickets, and must attend the game with the middle school students. The adult purchasing the ticket will be responsible for the students during the game. Once in the stadium, the students are expected to sit in the bleachers in the student or adult sections. Middle school students that do not have an adult parent or guardian in attendance will not be allowed to purchase a ticket to the game. Thank you for your support with this event protocol as we enjoy our 2022 Football Season!
Go Rebels!
Thank You for School Supply Donation
A big thank you to Wagner Spray Tech Corporation for their donation of 60 backpacks filled with school supplies for Jackson Middle School students. Their affiliate, Wagner Foundation, held a backpacking event/school supply drive and packed 600 backpacks for children in need in the metro area. A former JMS student and current Wagner Spray Tech employee, Makayla Worwa (Durand), reached out to JMS to arrange the donation. She and her siblings are former JMS students.
Prepare for the upcoming school year, complete back to school verification now
It’s important that families login to complete back to school forms online before the first day of school. (Also known as “Back to school verification.”) This step ensures that our school has access to emergency contact information for the safety of each student, and allows you to access important class schedules and teacher assignments, attendance, school handbooks, progress reports and grades in the coming weeks.
A few other notes:
- Free school meals will no longer be available to all students this year. After completing back to school forms for the upcoming school year, families may also apply to receive free and reduced priced meals. Visit ahschools.us/freereduced to apply and learn more.
- Chromebooks will be issued to students the first week of school, and these are an important daily learning tool for our students. Each family may consider adding a Device Protection Plan, which is new this year. Families can opt-in to the Device Protection Plan when completing their back to school verification, and pay for the coverage in SchoolPay. Visit ahschools.us/TechProtect to learn more and opt-in.
Community Meetings for Superintendent Feedback
This is an invitation for stakeholders invested in the Anoka-Hennepin School District including booster clubs, advisory groups, Parent/Teacher organizations and early childhood family education programs, business leaders and others
The Anoka-Hennepin School Board is seeking your input as they begin the important responsibility of hiring a new superintendent. You are invited to attend one of the open community meetings on September 27, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. The meeting locations are Champlin Park High School and Coon Rapids High School. Select a meeting site that is the most convenient for you. Ken Dragseth and Antoinette Johns from the search firm School Exec Connect will conduct these meetings. The Board appreciates your feedback.
They will also meet with board members, school district staff, union leadership, parents, students, and community members individually and in focus groups.
The input from everyone will be used to determine the strengths, challenges, goals for our district and the characteristics or skills you would like to see in a superintendent.
Additionally, our staff and community members will have the opportunity to give anonymous written feedback to the consultants via a link from our district website. Using this information, we will develop a profile of the desired skills and characteristics in the next superintendent. All replies will be anonymous. Additional information is posted online at www.ahschools.us/superintendent
Please submit feedback by October 4, 2022.
