The Reading Room
Parent Teacher Conferences
Thank You for Coming!!!
It was wonderful to meet so many of you this past week. I truly enjoyed discussing your child's growth in reading. Thank you for all of your support at home and for asking such meaningful questions regarding your child's needs in reading. It was a pleasure to get to know you all and to learn more about your families. If you were unable to come in for a conference, please contact me so that we can sit down together soon.
Reading Aloud
As we discussed in our Reading Presentation and during conferences, reading aloud to your child is a wonderful way to build a positive connection between child and print. Reading a chapter book aloud to your child expands their vocabulary, lengthens attention span and provides a relaxing and non-stressful time to share great books. Above is the link to 101 great books to read aloud.
GREAT new APP Alert!!!
Check out this app called Not the Hole Story. Students have to use their reading comprehension strategies to complete the fun stories. Kids seem to love it!!!
Brave - Sara Bareilles (Lyrics)
Brave!
Many of the students sang this song last week. It carries with it a powerful message about standing up for yourself. Put it on and let your child sing to it. We sing songs during our reading block once every 2 weeks because singing and poetry aid in developing fluency.
