Gladiator Greatness
CCHS orchestra students performed on March 7th with national-touring act Black Violin at UGA's Performing Arts Center. Read about this amazing honor and see video of their performance in the UGA Today article "Local Music Students Rock Stage with Black Violin."
Sophomore Abby Allen advocated for women's sports in front of the school board on March 7th. Read Abby's story in the Athens Banner-Herald's article "Athens Student Questions Inequities in High School Fields."
CCHS students are featured in the Athens Banner-Herald's coverage of the Chess and Community Conference held at the Classic Center on March 23rd. Seniors Kourtney Mitchum, Lucy Yeomans, and Jamia Echols are highlighted as recipients of the Think Before You Move Scholarship. Read more here.
CCHS's FFA program was one of only three Georgia programs and one of 50 nationwide to win Microsoft FarmBeats Student Kits through the National FFA Organization. Read more online about this incredible opportunity for Central students.
The CCHS Bass Fishing Team was awarded a grant of over $1000 in fishing gear from Lew's High School Fishing Program. Learn more about the fishing team on their Facebook page.
ELA teacher David Ragsdale was named a Distinguished Adviser, one of the top five journalism teachers in the nation, by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association. Mr. Ragsdale was recognized on March 21st at Columbia University in New York City. Read more about this prestigious honor here.
On March 22nd, CCHS soccer players (pictured to the right) welcomed future Gladiators as they arrived for the day at Oglethorpe Avenue Elementary. Mayor Kelly Girtz was on-hand to speak with the students and thank them for their inspiration and community involvement. Check out Gladiator Soccer on Twitter.
Central's band and orchestra programs had performances which Band Director Dr. Lawrence described as "historical and monumental" during the annual Large Group Performance Evaluation held at the end of March. The Wind Ensemble, Wind Symphony, and Symphonic Band all scored Superior ratings, and the Concert Band was rated Excellent. Read more online in the Odyssey Newsmagazine.
Clarke Central alumnus and DeKalb County Chief Executive Officer Michael Thurmond spoke to CCHS faculty and the First A.M.E Church about growing up in Athens and attending CCHS during its first year of integration. Read more about his story and visit to First A.M.E. in The Red & Black.
After an incredible season, the JROTC Drill Team and Color Guard are heading to state competitions!
Seniors Clare Wislar and Avery Ray had their artwork selected from thousands of entries to attend the GAEA Allstate Art Symposium. Avery Ray's work won Honorable Mention in the juried show awards.

14 CCHS faculty members have been nominated for Foundation for Excellence in Public Education awards. Congratulations to Chris Aiken, Ian Altman, Suzette Braden, Lindsay Coleman-Taylor, Bianca Culver, Donald Hollman, Chris Hulse, Heather Julian, Meghan McNeeley, David Ragsdale, Doug Sherer, Summer Smith, Elijah Swift, and John Walker. All four of the district's 9-12 Young Georgia Authors winners are CCHS students. Each winner will now move on to the regional competition. Congratulations to freshman Gretchen Hinger, sophomore Alexandra Lang, junior Lucy Yeomans, and senior Flora Lechtreck.

- Math IXL (https://www.ixl.com/signin/clarkecentral): Math support classes use this online program as a way to support students. Any student enrolled in math support, and even some who are not, have access to this program. If a student does not have an account but would like one, they should contact Mr. Barner at barnerc@clarke.k12.ga.us.
- Read Theory (www.readtheory.org): Students can register for free if they do not already have an account.
- USA Test Prep (https://www.usatestprep.com/) provides testing practice for all EOC courses. CCHS students use account ID clarkecentral and activation code newton95.
- Shmoop (https://www.shmoop.com/) is an online test prep and academic support program. Students can log-in using their school Google accounts.
- Khan Academy (https://www.khanacademy.org/) provides instructional videos for all subject areas. It is a free resource.
- NewsELA (https://newsela.com/) allows students to improve their literacy skills by reading and responding to current events articles. All CCHS students can access the site using their school Google accounts.
- PBS Learning Media (https://gpb.pbslearningmedia.org/) allows students to access thousands of free, standards-based digital resources. Students accounts are free.
