B.C. Rain Newsletter May 2023

The career academies of Ben C. Rain High School provide students with the foundational academic and social skills necessary to be successful in a college or workplace setting. Participating students receive real-world, firsthand learning experiences that expose various career fields and the skills used within the area of focus. In addition, academies allow students to engage in field trips, mock interviews, job shadowing, and internships.

The National Technical Honor Society Induction Ceremony was held on April 27th. Induction into the National Technical Honor Society is one of the highest accomplishments that can be bestowed upon a Career and Technical Education (CTE) student. NTHS honors the achievements of top CTE students, provides close to $300,000 in scholarships annually, and strives to help connect education and industry to build a highly skilled workforce.

On May 9th, the 8th graders from Pillans Middle School visited our campus. The visit began with a pep rally in the gym with performances by the band and chorus. Afterwards, students toured the academies. Mr. Sopha and Mr. Holmes shared information about the Aviation and Engineering Pathways. Students also toured the hangar.

Cadet Command Sergeant Major Marla Williams was recognized by the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce for her outstanding performance in JROTC during the City of Mobile Military Appreciation Day on May 3rd.

Congratulations to the B.C. Rain Raider Challenge Team lead by Abner Garcia and Amandra Rutledge. Raider Challenge is our toughest and most physically demanding competition and our team fought hard and finished 3rd overall for the season...way to go Red Raider Battalion!

Congratulations to Cadet Cassidy Lockett, pictured 3rd from the left, who was recognized by the Military Officers Association of America for her outstanding leadership and contributions to her school and JROTC.

The 2023 Choral Banquet and Performance was held on May 5th. During the festive event, the choir performed and students received awards for their accomplishments.

On April 28th, students in Ms. Hunter's Foundations of Health Science course attended an interactive hands-on Career Expo/ Connection Day at Mobile Infirmary Health Systems. Zerrick Baskins, Canei Deese, Kennedy Steward, Allyssa Washington and Keith Washington learned about the many career opportunities offered at Infirmary Health which is the largest not-for-profit healthcare provider in Alabama.

Meet B. C. Rain’s Senior Student Administrative Interns, Ambassador President, Zerrick Baskin and Ambassador Alyssa Washington. During their last week on campus, these seniors gained first hand experience with administrative duties. He plans to attend Alabama State University and major in Music Education and she plans to attend the University of South Alabama and major in Nursing. Both students have excelled academically and proven to be campus leaders.
