Welcome Back!!
While students are learning new procedures, they are also beginning to take their beginning of the year benchmark assessments. First through 5th grades are taking NWEA and kindergarten will be completing the Fountas and Pinnell beginning reader assessment, along with other basic skills testing. This data is used to get a baseline for the students to help measure growth for the year. We also use this data to help plan how we can best meet each child's needs and help them reach their potential growth.
I'm honored to continue our partnership, and looking forward to another fantastic year at Cooks!

Kids Chat Column
Hello everyone, I hope you had a great summer! The school newsletter is getting a big change – we are including a Kids Chat Column!
Kids like me can submit their articles. The teachers can even use it as a writing project! We will learn how to make drafts and take notes. Any student can write an article. It could be about a field trip, an assembly they saw, a big project they are working on in class, or something else! There are no age or grade limits. That’s what makes the Kids Chat Column really friendly and open to everyone! The perks of the Kids Chat Column are that kids like me will learn to be better writers and love writing more. We would like to see our articles online, too!
We are looking forward to when the construction will be done. There will be a new playground, no more dust and dirt, and no construction inside or outside of the building. Classes will run smoothly, with nothing left unfinished. We will have a nicer, private art room, a bigger office space, and a better library. Already our school has changed a lot – did you notice the new parking lot? We also have a new blacktop with hopscotch, basketball courts, four-square boards, a map of the USA, and a map of Indiana with all the counties on it. I am happy that some things have not changed, like the interesting mural in the cafeteria.
I hope that the Kids Chat Column will be very popular and appeal to everybody!
