Candy Gram Sales - Student Council
Student Council will be selling Candy Grams on September 27th for delivery October 1st. Candy Grams are a fun way to share a kind message to a friend, sibling, or adult in the building. It helps promotes the district’s initiative of Kindness, It's Personal.
The Candy Grams will be $0.50 a piece. Student Council will come around for the sale and leave a bucket to collect them when they are finished. Each Candy gram will have a place for the sender, receiver, teacher, and message. The candy will be added on Tuesday, October 1st for delivery.
All proceeds will go to our annual Adopt-a-Family we sponsor during the holiday season.
NWEA MAP Testing
If you have any questions about MAP testing don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher.
Cross Age Buddy Activity
I'm writing today to let you know that we are beginning our Cross-Age Buddies program for the year this Tuesday, September 24th. This program enables every child in our classes to develop a special friendship with a buddy from another grade. The older buddies and younger buddies will get together for a variety of supervised learning and social activities throughout the year.
We hope and expect that your child will get a lot out of the experience. Buddies provides an excellent opportunity for older children to be caring helpers, teachers, and friends. Younger children benefit from having a role model and a special, older friend at school.
You may want to ask your child about Buddies, particularly after we meet each month. Don't worry that you may not know the specific activity for the day, just ask an open-ended question such as "What did you do with your buddy today?" and let your child fill you in. The buddy friendships turn out to be very important to children. Your interest in this relationship will only make it more valuable.
If you have questions, please contact me at higginbotham.garret@westside66.net
Yours truly,
Mr. Garret Higginbotham, Principal

New Community Club Website
This year the Rockbrook Community Club is pleased to announce the roll-out of a brand new website. This site will provide a one-stop-shop for volunteer and event sign-up, student directory, Community Club Minutes of Meeting and much more.
To get started it's important that you register for an account. Registration also allows you to select what information you wish to have included in the student directory. Click here to download instructions on how to register for your free account.
Finally, don't forget to download the Membership Toolkit App. This app gives you access to the site and student directory from your mobile device and makes it easy to keep in the know about upcoming Community Club events. (Please note, directory access requires approval by our web team to ensure all asking for access are current Rockbrook families.)
Gallup Night for 6th Grade Parents and Students
As you know, your sixth grade student had the opportunity to take the Gallup Strengths Explorer tool during first semester. You may have discussed their three strengths and heard about how they are learning more about these at school.
You and your child are invited to an interactive evening to further explore this tool and your child’s strengths. A Gallup representative will facilitate this event, and you will receive your child’s full report along with your Parent Playbook. You and your child can enjoy discussing the report together. If your child is unable to attend, you are welcome to come on your own.
The Gallup Parent/Child Nights will be held from 6:00 to 7:00 in the Westside Middle School cafeteria. Please contact your child’s school counselor if you have any questions. We hope to see you there!

Deliveries During the School Day
It happens to all of us. We forget something we needed for school or work at home. Fortunately, sometimes parents are able to drop items off for their child. To keep student focus on learning we would ask that such items be dropped off to the office. We are happy to deliver these to your child or have your child’s teacher pick them up at an appropriate time. Parents wishing to visit their child during the day are encouraged to do so at lunch. We are also always looking for volunteers willing to help out in our library, work on clerical tasks, or to volunteer for times arranged with their child’s teacher.
Don't Forget
Students will be dismissed every Wednesday at 3:00.
Please be prompt as teachers are scheduled to leave the building each week to participate in professional learning communities.
