Plattsburg Heads to Tuba Christmas by: Blake Oetting

Members of the Plattsburg High School and Plattsburg Middle School band went to The Kauffman Center last Monday to participate in Tuba Christmas. Tuba Christmas is an annual event in which the Kansas City Symphony invites schools or groups of tuba players to practice Christmas carols and then perform in front of a live audience! The group of members that attended were Instructor Jay Nixon, Brett Riche, Nikki Reeves, Shelby Dickerson, Messiah Moultrie, and Austin Mynett.

I had a chance to interview the Senior of the group, Brett Riche. When I asked Brett what music they played at the event, he responded, “We played many Christmas carols, but I can't remember one exact piece of music. I enjoyed them all.”

Riche also said there were there were over 3,000 people in total in the audience. He said, “I am now one of the few people at Plattsburg High that has performed in front of over 1,500 people!” This year’s Tuba Christmas was a huge success! Congratulations Tuba Christmas attendees!

CCR3 Participates in The Hour of Code

CCR3 grades K-12 participated in The Hour of Code last week. The Hour of Code is a global movement reaching tens of millions of students in 180+ countries. The Hour of Code is a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to show that anybody can learn the basics. Students of all ages from Kindergarten up can choose from a variety of self-guided tutorials that will hopefully spark an interest in computer science. Why computer science? Every 21st-century student should have the opportunity to take part in creating technology that’s changing our world yet fewer schools teach computer science than 10 years ago. The basics help nurture creativity and problem-solving skills and prepare students for any future career. Special congrats to the students who successfully completed the program!
