Physical Education News with Mr. Nye
In Physical Education class the younger students (K-2nd) have worked on locomotor skills. Locomotor skills allow children to move through different environments, moving their body from one place to another. The main locomotor skills are walking, marching, running, jumping, crawling, hopping, climbing, galloping, shuffling, skipping and leaping. It’s essential that children get plenty of practice with their locomotion skills because they’re the building blocks of coordination, spatial awareness and balance. The lower elementary students are also progressing on sports-related skills such as throwing and catching. Students have been practicing overhand throw, underhand throw, rolling, and catching various size balls to improve on hand-eye coordination and communication.
With the older students (3rd-5th) we have been working on the fundamental skills of volleyball, frisbee golf, fitness-related skills and football. The focus is to develop these skills based on the sport and incorporate these skills into various activities. The activities emphasize the particular skills that are highlighted during class. Skills are taught in a simple to complex format that is based upon the students’ developmental levels. This allows each and every student the opportunity to be successful. Our focus is on personal goals as well as developing positive attitudes towards physical activity. We want our students to learn how to live a physically active and healthy lifestyle for a lifetime. Thank you for your time, and if there are any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to email me at rnye@nsd2.com.

TOYS FOR TOTS
Donate a new, unwrapped toy or book. As we approach the 2022 Holiday Season, we tend to count our blessings and acknowledge how lucky we are. Spring Grove Elementary School is a participant in the Toys for Tots collection. For the last 10 years, we have collected the most toys in McHenry County! If you would like to donate have your child bring a new, unwrapped gift to his/her teacher by December 12th. If you bring a gift in through the front door, please bring it into the office to make sure it gets counted for your child! The classroom that collects the most gifts will win a pizza party! On behalf of the families in need, we thank you for your generosity.
