What's Buzzing at the Heights
Week 10 Remote Learning Academy: May 26-28, 2020
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents,
Happy Memorial Day! On behalf of our team at the Heights, we wish you and your family a restful day where we can honor the men and women that provided us our freedoms! May you each enjoy the day to the fullest!
It is hard to believe that this is the LAST WEEK of SCHOOL! It has been a great school year! Our scholars worked hard and moved FORWARD. They had a spectacular year! I am confident that as we return, we will pick up and continue to make gains in their academic progress.
During the summer break, I highly urge you to ask your children to read. Reading is the foundation of all content areas. When your child finds a good book, sit and read with them. You read some, they read some. Together, you will establish a love for reading. You will have access to Lexia and Imagine Math through June 30. Please make time to use these daily!
Ms. Ortega has developed a Reading Bingo for our scholars! We all love a good competition! We ask our scholars to join in the fun and continue to read as we all know, "Readers become Leaders!"
Enjoy your last week of the 2019-2020! Teachers will be holding a weekly meeting with the scholars to say their farewells for the year. We hope that you will join in. We appreciate all the SUPPORT you have provided your child and their teacher! Thank you for collaborating with us to have an exceptional year!
Lastly, we will be offering 2 weeks of Online Summer School to help our scholars enrich their skills as they will move to the next grade level. We will offer 2nd grade through 5th grade. The sessions will be from June 8 through June 19 from 9 AM to 12 noon.
Week 1: June 8 - June 12
Week 2: June 15 - June 19
The first 2 hours will be online for direct instruction. The last hour will be Nearpod work for the children. We hope that you will join us for Summer School. The teachers will be contacting our 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th graders that will join us.
We have a wonderful learning community because we all give it our best! Thank you parents for making it a memorable year! We appreciate all that you did to end the year safe and on a positive note! We thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
Together, we are better!
Respectfully,

Distribution of School Items
As we work to end the school year, our teachers will be going to school to pack up the students’ belongings. They will wear gloves and masks as the items are packed. All items in their desks and cubbies will be packed. We will include all workbooks so that the children will have work to do over the summer, if you wish to continue their academic growth.
We will also include Spring photos and yearbooks.
If you DO NOT want the items, please communicate that with the teacher. We will not pack items, if you are not going to come and collect them. Due to cross contamination, we will only distribute one grade level at a time. If you do not come for the items, we will dispose of them.
At this time, we will collect library books, FitBits, and any other items that need to be turned in. We will ask that you please bring them during your day to pickup.
Thank you for your continued support! We are truly blessed with a wonderful learning community that collaborates to build future leaders!
Stay safe and Have a wonderful summer!
Meaning of Memorial Day: Fallen Soldier
As we celebrate Memorial Day, it is important that our children understand the meaning of this holiday. I found this video that might help us all understand the significance of today. It is incredibly moving!
Enjoy!
End of the Year Parent Engagement Survey
Please take 5 minutes to give us your input on only 5 questions. Our goal is to provide more opportunities for parents, both moms and dads to be a part of our learning environment.
On behalf our our team, we thank you for giving from the heart! We appreciate each of you that helped us by volunteering! We truly appreciate your support!
