Clinical Pharmacology
Lunesta is a nonbenzodiazepine hypnotic which is somewhat effective for insomnia. It basically helps you sleep. The exact way this drug works is unknown but it is thought to interact with our GABA receptors. Gamma-aminobutyric acid is one of the most important chemicals needed to sleep.
Indications
Used for treatment of Insomnia
Lunesta Doses
Initial: 1mg immediately hs
Titrate: May increase to 2mg or 3mg if clinically indicated
Max: 3mg qd immediately hs
Titrate: May increase to 2mg or 3mg if clinically indicated

Be Cautious or do not use if...
Be cautious with doses if you are elderly.
Be cautious if you suffer from depression as Lunesta may worsen it.
Be cautious if you have a liver condition.
Be cautious if you have a disease that affects your metabolism or blood circulation.
Be cautious if you have breathing problems.
Be cautious if you have prior drug/alcohol abuse .
Be cautious if have psychiatric disorder.
Category C, safety not known in nursing.
Don't use while driving or using machinery or when about to do such things.

Overdosage
A case where someone overdosed with 36mg of Lunesta made a full recovery. Fatalities only occur in combination with other CNS drugs or alcohol.
Dosage Schedule
Take either 1, 2 or 3mg of Lunesta ,whatever is prescribed, once per day whenever going to sleep.
