One Week In The Books!
On behalf of the staff, I would like to thank all of our families for the amazing cooperation to get this school year off the ground. While we weren't without some bumps and hiccups, this week was a great start to the school year.
Next week, we will be incorporating some new technology into the classrooms. We have been operating off of our teachers' laptop microphones for our eLearners this week. As we progress through next week, we will be implementing new camera/microphone systems that will allow different classroom perspectives and good sound quality for kids at home.
REMINDER: All students attend classes every day, whether they are in-school or eLearning.
- All Google classrooms have a Google Meet or Zoom code. When students are at home on an eLearning day, they must join the class using the appropriate code every period.
- Teachers will take attendance for in-person and eLearners every period.
- Students should follow their room schedules whether at school or at home.
If you have any questions, you can email me or call the middle school office at 794-1614. Thank you for being the loving and supportive parents of our amazing L.B. Clarke Middle School Raiders.

FRIDAYS
All students will attend core subject classes on Friday mornings through Google Meet or Zoom. Friday mornings will be used to wrap up learning for the week, foreshadow learning for the next week, and to provide support or extension learning for students. This is a required part of the school week.
Here is a sample student schedule:
- Science- 9:15-9:45
Math- 9:50-10:20
Integrated Studies- 10:25-10:55
Integrated Studies- 11:00-11:30 (Integrated Studies is a two-period class)
Afternoons on Friday are for students to finish up on any work for the week, start any assignments that have been given for the next week, or for getting extra help from a teacher.
Teachers will help students prepare for the first Friday of the school year.
ATTENDANCE
While our return to school looks very different this year, attendance law and expectations remain the same. Whether in school or at home, students must follow their schedules and attend classes. When students are at home, they must log in at the beginning of each class to attend through Google Meet. In each Google Classroom, there is a link at the top of the page to join the class.
Reporting an absence:
- Whether it is a day they are attending school in-person or at home eLearning, a parent/guardian must call the middle school office, or email shannon.zarn@trschools.k12.wi.us, by 9 am and report the absence. If the school doesn't receive a call we will call you at home or work. For your child's safety, it is important that we make sure you know they are not attending school.
- If you leave a message, please provide your child's name, your name, the reason for absence, and if they are ill, what symptoms they are experiencing, and a phone number to return the call if necessary.
If your child is sick and cannot attend school in-person:
- If he or she feels well enough, they can attend online instead. However, we still need you to call the school to confirm that they are not attending in-person.
- If they are ill and do not feel well enough to attend class, please have them rest and take care.
If your child is sick and cannot attend school online:

***We understand that students may be at home on their own or with older siblings as their caretakers during the day. This is an added challenge for eLearning days. Many teachers and staff are working parents who will have the same situation at home. One of the reasons for this structure is so kids have a schedule to follow at home and will be an active part of the class. If you or your child struggle with eLearning routines, please contact your child's advisor. We are here to help.
School Picture Days
We will have a separate time for students who are doing the eLearning only option to come in and have pictures taken. eLearners may come to school between noon and 1 pm on September 23rd to have their school pictures taken. It is important that all students have their picture taken for safety purposes and for the yearbook.
Picture orders will be done online this year. Please see the web site below or use the camera on your smartphone to scan the QR code. Picture orders can be made the Harmann's website.
L.B. Clarke Fall Fundraiser- Starts Friday, September 14th!
Even though we are not going on any trips this year, we can still provide our families with the opportunity to raise money for their trip accounts. Student trip accounts can be used for end of year grade level trips and the 8th grade Washington D.C. trip. Many students have paid for their entire 8th-grade trip through fundraising over the years.
The school makes ZERO DOLLARS from this fundraiser. All proceeds from each student's sales go directly into their own trip account. This fundraiser is for students and families to pay for trips, nothing else. 8th graders can still fundraise this year, and due to the COVID-19 circumstances, we will transfer your trip account funds to the high school next year.
If you have any questions please ask! We will kick-off the fundraiser at school this week.
Lunch Pick-up Days and Times
Below are lunch pick up times and locations for eLearning:
- Mondays- 10:30-11 am
- Wednesdays- 10:30-11 am
- Fridays- 11 am-1pm
Lunches can be picked up at both Koenig and Magee.
Please use the same location consistently.
L.B. Clarke Middle School Athletics Update
Fall Athletics at L.B. Clarke Middle School has kicked off and we have learned some things from our first week, which is our reason to change how we were planning on running some sports.
Cross Country: Grades 5-8
All students will be able to participate in cross country on each day of the week since social distancing is able to be followed in the outdoor setting. Even if the student is a purple or gold cohort student, they can attend practice on opposite days. All meetings before practice will be held outside. Families will be given FOUR passes to attend games and the passes must be present in the event of a meet official asking for proof.
See the schedule on the school website for more information.
Soccer: Grades 5-8
Due to the number of students signed up for soccer, we are not able to run two teams.
All students will be on ONE team.
Students will be able to attend practice every day, meeting out by the soccer field in the back of the school.
Families will be given FOUR passes to attend games and the passes must be present in the event of a game official asking for proof.
See the schedule on the school website for more information..
Volleyball: Grades 7-8 Girls
Due to the number of students signed up for volleyball at each grade level, we are not able to run two teams at each grade level.
Students will be on either the 7th grade or 8th grade team, depending on their grade level.
Students will be able to attend practice every day, no matter what color cohort they are. Please meet in the gym for practice.
Families will be given only TWO passes to attend games and the passes must be shown at the door in order to get into the gym.
