Term 2 Issue 30 29th June 2023
TERM 3 BEGINS TUESDAY18th JULY
NOONGAR SEASON OF MAKURU (JUNE-JULY)
Dear Parents & Caregivers,
After a very busy ten weeks, we have made it to the July holidays! Thank you to all the parents for the continued support you have shown our staff, children and community. A lot of hard work has been undertaken by your children and they should be extremely proud of their efforts this semester - a well earned break awaits!
NAIDOC WEEK 2023
This Sunday 2nd July marks the beginning of National NAIDOC Week 2023, which celebrates and recognises the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth. As our children are on school holidays, we will be celebrating NAIDOC Week in the first week back of Term 3.
Our Cultural Awareness Team have planned a number of activities to immerse our children in Aboriginal culture, including a community painting, visit from an Aboriginal dance group, liturgy and final closing concert. More details will be sent home in the week we return to school!
INTERSCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY
Last Friday, in some pretty ordinary conditions our Year 3-6 children competed in the Interschool Cross Country Carnival. Despite the patches of driving rain our children were competitive and gave their all. Whilst there were some notable individual performances, the collaborative effort of all the runners should be congratulated. It is a daunting task to run at a foreign course they hadn't practiced against a number of other schools but they did an amazing job!
WINTER UNIFORM - TERM 3
A reminder that the uniform shop will not be open at the beginning of Term 3 as there are no staff on site on the Monday 17th July. Online orders can be placed via the website and collected at the beginning of next term. We are hopeful school ties will be back in stock to start Term 3. As in previous newsletters, I have attached below acceptable photos of appropriate shoes, earrings, hair accessories and general school uniform. We appreciate your continued support in maintaining high expectations across our school.
WELL BEING WEEK - WEEK 10
It's been a wonderful vibe around the community this week with our annual Wellbeing Week celebrations. A variety of activities have been organised by our Wellbeing Team which has been posted across our socials. A huge thank you to Mrs Ward, Mrs Kavanagh, Mrs Coker, Miss Kruenert, Mrs Baker and Ms Ford for their contributions to the wellbeing of both students and staff throughout the week. A fantastic way to approach the school holidays!
TERM 3 IMPORTANT DATES
Please see the attached below for a number of events taking place throughout Term 3, which includes a range of liturgical, sporting and school events to note. For the most up-to-date schedule of events, please refer to the live calendar link below.
Looks like we are in for a few brisk mornings over the next couple of weeks of holidays. Whether you are staying in your PJ's and watching netflix, or jetting off to somewhere tropical and warm, we wish you a safe and restful holiday break. We look forward to everyone returning next term happy and healthy (and hopefully up 3-0 in the Ashes and West Coast losing by under 150pts!).
Have a wonderful holiday break and we look forward to seeing all families on Tuesday 18th July.
The glorious sunshine set the tone for the start of Well-being week. With mindfulness activities planned and children gaining a sense of what gratitude sounds like, looks like and feels like, the children and teachers alike were ready for the wonderful week ahead.
ARMED FOR LIFE
On Monday, Years 2-6 had the opportunity to participate in Armed for Life sessions. The children were able to understand the meaning of resilience and develop strategies to increase their mental health and personal wellbeing.
On 'Thankful Tuesday' Kindy to Year One enjoyed the yoga sessions by Yoga Zoo. The children focused on their whole mind, body and spirit whilst learning the basics of mindfulness and techniques that could be used both in the classroom and at home.
EDUCATED BY NATURE
On Tuesday, the Kindy classes got to experience all the joy that a 'Mully Gully' incursion could bring. The Kindy's were able to explore and investigate natural clay that engaged the senses to inspire creativity and support fine and gross motor skills. The array of sloppy, firm, gooey and muddy clay provided an hour of mess, fun and lots of giggles.
Nothing calls for pyjamas more than the crisp, fresh, cold mornings that we have encountered each day this week. A non-perishable food donation allowed for our whole school to come dressed in their warmest, comfiest pyjamas...staff included. The children were also able to have a juice box and piece of fruit before school to dive straight into our Wellness Wednesday.
What a Well-being Week!
"Mindfulness means maintaining a moment-by-moment awareness of our thoughts, feelings and surrounding environment."

It has been a great 2nd term for the P & F. We have had a lot of support from the parents and friends of the school which have helped host some great events.
In June we had our Cake stall which raised $300 for the P & F. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped on the stall and the donations from the Year 5s and Kindys.
Last Thursday, we had our first-ever Club Fiesta event with Gina Vescovi. It was a truly awesome night, filled with fun and laughter and all freestyle movers were fully embraced. We danced the cold weather away that night. During the event, Exotic Nutrition kept us hydrated with their scrumptious smoothies and loaded teas for kids and adults; just what we needed to keep us going. We had some lucky winners of the door prizes, which were donated by the following companies, who have supported our school and we are very thankful to them:
- Kmart Ocean Keys
- Memento Vivere
- Hala Fitness
- Exotic Nutrition
- Rockwear Ocean Keys.
This event raised over $300 for the P & F.
This Friday we have the end-of-term Community Lunch, with just over 320 orders, this should be a great afternoon and a nice way to finish the 1st semester.
We wish you a great winter break.
