6th, 7th, and 8th Girls Basketball Tryouts:

Girls who are interested in playing basketball for WMS this year, tryouts will be on Friday, September 20th, from 2:45 - 4:20. There will be a 4:30 bus to take students home. In order to make make the team, you need to be at the tryout. Girls will be able to do both Cheer and Basketball. Please make sure to bring clothes to tryout in.

Cheer/Dance Team Clinic and Tryouts

If you are interested in being part of WMS's Cheer/Dance team, there will be a clinic on Wednesday, September 18th, from 3:00 - 4:30 . Tryouts will be the following day, Thursday, September 19th from 3:00 -4:30.

PTSA Events for the Week

We would like to invite all parents and guardians of Continentals to join us in two events next Monday, September 16.

First, from 7:45-8:30 AM, we will have a PTSA meeting and coffee chat with Mrs. Branson in the media center.

In the evening, from 6-7:00PM, we will have a family engagement event to help parents learn about their student's chromebooks, RDS, and google classroom. Please bring your child's chromebook with you. This, too, will be held in the media center.

Please plan to park in the parking lot in the back of the gym to participate in these events and enter Door 10 off of the Rotherwood circle drive.

Art Pizza Fundraiser

Art students are selling Little Caesars pizzas to raise money for our art room. Pizzas will be delivered on October 2nd

Chromebook Cases

Neoprene chromebook cases will be available to students in the media center for $5. The cases are large enough for a chromebook, charger, and pencil pouch. Please see Mrs. Perry. First come, first served

The tour of opportunity for 8th grade students

The Tour of Opportunity for 8th grade students is on Wednesday, September 18th. It is an opportunity during the school day to visit manufacturing and tech businesses in Evansville. 40 8th grade students can participate. The first 40 students that apply and meet the requirements will attend. Please see the counselor's office for an application or click on the link below to apply.

Santa Clothes Club

The 6th grade students are eligible for Santa Clothes Club. This is a service that provides students with a voucher for a uniform outfit and coat from Walmart. If you feel that your student would benefit from Santa Clothes Club, please contact Heather Miller, Youth First School Social Worker, at 812-477-8983 x4 or email at heather.miller@evsck12.com. There is a firm deadline for requests of September 11 at 3:00 PM. Please do not delay.

Bullying Report Form

We take incidents of bullying very seriously, however, we cannot support your child if we do not know. If your child comes home complaining about a student who repeatedly says things, touches them or harasses them on social media, please make sure to report this to Mr. Meyer or complete the form below. In order for us to be able to prove "bullying," we must have documented incidents to show that it's "repeated." In order to ensure that your child doesn't also get consequences, encourage them to report these incidents, talk to our social worker or counselor, or visit Ms. Hawkins in Regulation Station rather than respond verbally or physically. Penny Lane Cafe

Penny Lane Cafe starts Tuesday, September 3rd. This is a program that meets every Tuesday and Thursday until 4:30 for students who need to retake a test or get some extra tutoring. Interested students need to sign up with Mrs. Stoll in room 20 or by emailing her at jennifer.stoll@evsck12.com. Limited to 10 per day.

Save the Date: Family Movie Night

Friday, September 27th at 6:00pm is the first "Movie of the Month" in the WMS auditorium. These nights will be a fundraiser for the trip to Boston/NYC that many of our 8th grade students will be going on next summer. This month, we will be showing The Secret Life of Pets 2. Doors will open at 5:30pm and snacks will be available for purchase. Admission is $2 for adults and children. All children and students must be accompanied by an adult. Run time: 1 hour and 26 minutes

We will continue meeting with students individually regarding Citizenship this week. Citizenship includes points for grades, growth (based on last quarter GPA), Extracurricular Activities, and Behavior. Students will need to have 13 total points in order to have Citizenship. You can check RDS Parent Access, linked below, in order to keep up with your child's Citizenship Points. If you click on the class, you can see how many points your child has for each category. If you have questions about how it's calculated, a detailed explanation is linked in the Student and Teacher Handbook also on the newsletter.

Students will need to have 13 points in order to wear Spirit Wear on Friday and receive their snack at lunch periods. Please contact your child's homeroom teacher if you have any questions.

Dress Code Reminders

Cool Weather Items

Type: hoodless sweaters or hoodless sweatshirts, vest, zip up fleece, softshell or cardigan worn with a collared button down or polo shirt underneath

Colors: any solid color

Logo: small manufacturers logos are acceptable; school logos are permitted

The following is unacceptable at WMS and will not be allowed:

· Unnatural hair colors (bright red, burgundy, orange, yellow, green, blue, pink or purple)

· Body piercings, excluding ears. Earrings that pose a safety hazard or that are disruptive in nature

· Visible tattoos

· Skinny style pants, stretch pants or tight fitting clothing

· Hats or head coverings inside the school

· Cell Phones, large purses, gym bags, backpacks, backpack style purses, and drawstring bags must be kept in students’ lockers from 7:30am to 2:30pm.
