WELCOME BACK 2018
January 9th - January 12th
Tips for the first day back....
2. Schedule "share time" into your morning lesson plans: Your students may not have seen each other for 2 weeks. Acknowledge their voices, the rest of the week will go much smoother.
- Circle up and quickly fill in the blank. “My favorite part of winter break was when ______.”
- Have students write or draw about their special moment during writing time or during centers
- Play music as students stroll around the room. When the music stops, students find a partner and have two minutes to chit chat about their winter break. When the music starts again, the students must disperse and continue to stroll around the room. They will have to find a new partner to chit-chat with the next time the music stops.
3. Use whole group time to review routines and expectations: This last reminder may be the MOST vital. Take your time and review your classroom rules and expectations with your students. Even if you THINK your students do not need the time to review your rules, I urge you to do it anyways. Even if your students seem calm and focused on that first day back, reviewing and practicing routines and procedures will never hurt your classroom culture. It can only help!
