Happy October!
We want to start by thanking all of the members of our State Road Community for making this one of the best and smoothest starts to a school year. Curriculum night provided an opportunity for teachers to share valuable information about what students will be learning as well as classroom procedures. As always, if you have questions please contact your child’s teacher.
Parents will meet with their child’s teacher twice a year, once in October and once in March. You will receive two reports cards on the parent portal summarizing your student’s progress towards the end of the year goals - one in January and one in June. The first set of conference days is coming up at the end of the month. Friday, October 18th, Thursday October 24th and Friday October 25th are half days and students are dismissed at 10:20am.
On October 31st, we will have our annual Halloween Parade beginning at 8:30. This is a rain or shine event. If it is nice, we parade outside along the bus loop for all to see. We ask that parents observe from the outside. If it rains, we parade through the school with the parents gathering in the cafeteria to view the students as they parade through. This fun annual event usually last about 20 minutes and then the students head back to their classes for instruction.
Please STOP for school buses!!
Thank you!

Outdoor allergy symptoms of sneezing, scratchy throat and headaches have begun to slow down.We begin to move into the next phase of illnesses. Respiratory illnesses are now commonly seen and treated in the fall and winter months, along with some of the common general cold symptoms.
Common Symptoms at School:
Mild Cough, Runny Nose or Congestion: General symptoms throughout the year. If there's no fever and the child feels fairly good, school is fine.
Cough: A general cough can take a week or longer to resolve! Children with bad coughs however, may need further evaluation for bronchitis.
Sore Throat: Sore throats can be caused for many reasons. Cough drops can help ease mild throat discomfort. A severe sore throat could be strep even without fever. Symptoms are headache, stomach pain and sometimes patches in the throat. If present, contact a doctor. If strep throat is diagnosed, they can return to school 24 hours after antibiotics start and no fever.
Earache: Earaches can be caused by many things including sinus pressure, wax or infection.
The Health Office is happy to provide your child with any medications to ease the common symptoms and help your child get through the day.
*MEDICATIONS: If your child needs an over-the-counter (OTC) medication during the school day such as Ibuprofen, prescription medication, cough drops, inhaler, etc (temporary or through the school year) we must have a written physician’s order and a signed parental permission to have medications while at school.
Children Sick at School:
When we send a child home:
- Fever
- Vomiting or diarrhea
- Severe injury where a significant sprain, strain or possible fracture
- Head injury which requires additional evaluation
When to keep your child at home:
Fever: Fever is a common symptom of viral infections. If your child's temperature is over 100, keep them at home, if it is over 100.5 at school, we will send them home.
Diarrhea or Vomiting: Keep at home until illness appears to be over (24 hours after last episode without medicine)..
Pink Eye (Conjunctivitis): There are three types, pink eye can be highly contagious and caused by allergies, a virus, or a bacteria. Bacterial conjunctivitis will require an antibiotic; your doctor should be able to advise which this may be and whether or not they are okay to be at school.
