Notes from the Principal
Grounds Workday A Success
Despite the threat of rough weather, our first Boone Grounds Workday of the school year was a huge success. On October 6th, we had over 50 family, community, staff, and City of Austin volunteers working on numerous projects around the grounds. The garden is up and running, the outdoor science area got a good cleaning out, work was started on the boat project in the PK play area, the young trees and other areas received a good layer of mulch, and the beds for the Monarch Habitat were built and readied for planting.
It was a fun day of community and accomplishments. A huge thank you to all of you who came out and helped make the day a great success!!!

Federal “Right To Know” Information Requests
As a parent of a student at Boone Elementary you have the right to know the professional qualifications of the classroom teachers and teacher assistants who instruct your child. Federal law allows you to ask for certain information about your child’s classroom teachers. The attached letter outlines the information that you are able to request.

Red Ribbon Week, October 22-26
Next week is Red Ribbon Week! We will be hearing announcements and having discussions each day to help us all understand the importance of making healthy choices for our brains and bodies.
We will have themed days to show our support and pledge to making healthy choices. Please see the picture below for each day's theme.
Counselor Lessons, K-5th grade:
We have been learning about the Zones of Regulation in our counselor lessons for the past two weeks. It is a curriculum that helps students gain skills in consciously regulating their actions, which in turn leads to increased control and problem solving abilities. Zones of Regulation is designed to help students recognize when they are in different states called “zones,” with each of four zones represented by a different color. Students have been learning how to use strategies or tools to stay in a zone or move from one to another.
Please see the picture below that gives an overview of the 4 zones. There is also a bulletin board by the cafeteria that helps explain them as well.
Thank you,
Nicole Lozo
