Message from Dr. Rhodes
We are having a great first full week of school! Thank you for your patience with arrival and dismissal. This process is becoming smoother and quicker as everyone becomes more familiar with the procedures. This week each class is making a class promise that will guide their class family for the year. The class promise will include ways in which classmates, teachers, and others who enter the room will treat each other. Be sure to ask your child about their class promise.
With the summer temperatures we have been experiencing recently, please read the District Extreme Heat Guidelines we use for outdoor activities, such as recess.
From Our Counselors
This week students began learning about respect using this definition: seeing good in people and things and treating them with care. Respect is an important trait for students to learn and apply in their lives and is part of our Bryant Code of Honor. One of the activities found in our newsletter is called the Family Field Trip. For this activity, you could research other cultures with a real or virtual family field trip. Maybe there’s a Native Indian Museum close by? Or an exhibit on the Royals in England coming to a museum near you? It could even just be a field trip to eat dinner at a German restaurant. Notice similarities and differences in the culture(s) that you experience and talk about them after the trip is over! This is one of the ideas found in our family newsletter through PurposeFull People: K-2 resource (en Espanol) and 3-5 resource (en Espanol). If you would like more information, please contact our school counselors, Penny Flores or Julie Akerson.
Need to Reach the Counselor?
Students at Bryant have accessibility to talk with our School Counselors, Penny Flores (grades PK, K, 4, and 5) and Julie Akerson (grades 1-3). If you would like to get in touch with either of them, please contact Dr. Flores at 281-234-4331 or at penelopewflores@katyisd.org or Mrs. Akerson at 281-234-0676 or at julianaakerson@katyisd.org. In addition, you can find more information and guidance lessons on her counselor webpage by clicking here.

**Disclaimer Note** This is not a program run or supervised by Bryant Elementary teachers or administrators. If your student needs specific academic or behavioral interventions, has allergies, or any other specific need from an adult working with him/her during this after-school program, it is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to provide this information directly to the company renting school space and provide these services. The company will have their own dismissal/checkout process which is not approved or monitored by Bryant employees. Divorce decrees, guardianship paperwork, or any other legal paperwork will need to be provided directly to the program. Bryant Elementary staff does not share personal information about any student participating in any program. While rare to none, complaints, student's not working well together, separation agreements, or any other dissatisfaction would be directed to the company offering the service. Thank you.

This year we will continue to offer each family a unique dismissal tag color and number. For example, if you have multiple children attending Bryant living in the same household, you will receive a dismissal number with one set of car tags for your family. This will be available at Meet the Teacher. This system allows us to account for each student and maintain proper security measures. Student safety is always a priority!
Car Riders:
Car riders stage for dismissal via double stack lanes in our car rider lane which wraps behind the school. Staff members will be entering your dismissal number and color into a Google Doc which is shared inside the school. It is imperative that once you have entered the left or right lane, you cannot change lanes. This causes great challenges because staff members are staging students inside using the order recorded in the Google Doc. If you are picking up your child as a car rider, please use the HANGING TAGS provided for you. If families are carpooling, a great idea is to use a hanger with clips to show more than one dismissal number on your rear-view mirror. Please hang the tag(s) from the rear view mirror, not in the corner of the window. If you do not have the physical number for the child or children you are picking up, you will not be able to pick up a child from the car rider line. See map below for more directions. Please watch this video for an overview of our car rider system.
Daycare Riders:
On our transportation survey above, you can tell us your child’s teacher and the name of their daycare bus.
Walkers/Bike Riders:
Students in PK-1st will be released to an adult only. If you have a PK-1st grader that you would like to walk home with an older sibling, please see the directions in the manila envelope provided during Meet the Teacher. The older sibling will not need a dismissal number to pick up their younger sibling. Parents MUST have the physical dismissal number in your hand in order to pick up your PK-1st grade child from school. If you do not have the number in your hand you will be asked by a staff member to go to the front office. Students in 3rd-5th will leave campus on their own, and will not need a dismissal number in order to exit the building.
Bus Riders:

The Katy ISD Transportation Department is excited to communicate that all 2021 – 2022 route buses continue to be equipped with GPS systems. With the GPS systems, parents, campuses and transportation personnel are able to track buses in real-time through a downloadable application from Edulog. For parents and patrons having children who are eligible for transportation services in Katy ISD, click here for information on how to download the application. Bryant's campus code is: 69167016
Click here for step-by-step instructions for how to install the app and track our buses.
