Room 126A

Weekly Update #1

Great To Meet Ya'!

Ms Lim and I were truly excited to meet each of your on Thursday evening. It was great to see so many parents out for our open house. I hope we were able to give you a clear understanding of our classroom routines and expectations.

I know there are some parents I didn't get a chance to talk to in person; if you have any outstanding questions or concerns, please feel free to email me at taye.maddison@tdsb.on.ca.

Cubbies and Backpacks

Please remember to send in a spare set of clothes that your child can leave in their cubby in case of accidents. If you put their spare clothes in a ziplock bag with their name on it, and put it in their Zippies, we'll be able to find the clothes to help your child put it away. If clothes are left loose in backpacks, we may not find it.

Also, as the weather is getting wetter, we do need indoor running shoes that can stay at school. Again, if they are sent in your child's Zippie, we can help put them away.

Please make sure any belongings that are coming to school are clearly labeled with your child's name. We will do our best to ensure that everything is being returned to the correct home. If however, something does go missing, both classes in room 126 have a lost and found located near our outside door.

Finally, our routines are getting settled, and students will begin to bring home more and more materials from school. To make things easier for your child, please ensure that they have a full-sized school backpack. Also, as you are getting your child ready for school in the morning, please make sure their Zippie is packed in such a way that will make it easy for your child to get it out of their bag (ie/ on the top of the big section, or in a front pocket). Some students are finding it difficult to find their Zippies when they are tucked under lunch bags and jackets.

Thanks For The Help

Playdough

Thanks to MJ's mom, Jennie, who has very kindly offered to provide the class with gluten-free playdough.

Weekly Laundry

Thank you to Ophelia's mom, Jessica, who volunteered to do class laundry this weekend. If you are available this coming weekend to wash a few picnic blankets, please let me know via email.

Weekly Walk

We will be going on our first weekly walk this Wednesday afternoon. For the first few weeks we will be practicing how to walk safely together on our adventures by exploring the Hillside Garden.

We will begin our walk immediately after lunch. Hillside Garden walks, generally take about 45 minutes.

If you are available to help supervise our walk, please let me know via email.

A Few Things We Forgot To Mention:

Keeping Each Other Healthy

Kindergarten students get sick... and they spread germs. Please help keep our class as healthy as possible, by encouraging your children to cough into their arm and wash their hands before and after eating.

If your child does get sick, please keep them home. This is especially important this year because we are in such close quarters with Ms Visconti's class. We can also help to protect her class and a student who is undergoing treatment for leukemia.

Thank you for your support and understanding in this area.

If your child is going to be away, please remember to call the Safe Arrival system at 416-393-9060. Remember to include your child's full name (please spell their last name), their classroom and teacher's name, the reason for your child's absence, and how long they will be away.

Playground Safety

There are a lot of kindergarten children this year, and we are teaching them Runnymede's playground safety rules. Please review these rules with your children.

1. Slides are for going down, not up and we should always be sitting on the slide (not on our bellies or feet).

2. One person at a time on each slide.

3. Monkey bars are for students in grade 1 and up, not for kindergarten students.

4. Wood chips stay on the ground.

5. Tag can be played on the ground only, not on the climber.

Also, to protect little children, we ask that only the kindergarten students play on the equipment during school hours which begin when the duty staff come outside.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Please remember to return Poetry Folders and Zippies on Monday :)
