The Clear View Cub Connection - August 7, 2022 - Issue #2
Good Afternoon Cub Families!
I hope that this newsletter finds you all well and enjoying these last few weeks of summer vacation. August 29th is coming quickly and I am happy to report that we are just about ready to welcome all of our Cubs to this beautiful new school! We are almost fully staffed, and each and every classroom teacher has been hired. Classroom assignments will be sent out tomorrow and I know our teachers are just as excited about that as our students are.
I hope that you will take the time to read through this newsletter in its entirety. There is a lot of important information, as well as some important requests.
You can expect the next "Cub Connection" newsletter on August 21st and after that, they will come weekly.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions. Our office is open daily 8:30-4:00, closed 12:00-12:30 for lunch. You can stop by or give us a call at 910-455-2667.

CLEAR VIEW DEDICATION CEREMONY AND RIBBON CUTTING
Wednesday, August 3, 2022 marked the official Ribbon Cutting of Clear View Elementary. Members of the Onslow County Schools Board of Education and the Onslow County Board of Commissioners, along with Onslow County Schools district staff and the staff of Clear View Elementary gathered with friends, family and community members to witness Board Chairman, Bob Williams, cut the ribbon. We were led in the Pledge of Allegiance by four rising fifth grade students, representing the schools they are coming from, Heritage, Meadow View, and Stateside. Comments from building Principal, Denise Gartner; Superintendent, Dr. Barry Collins; Board of Education Chairman, Bob Williams; and Board of Commissioners Vice-Chairman, Tim Foster preceded the ribbon cutting. Photographs, cake, and self-guided tours followed.
CLEAR VIEW ELEMENTARY - HELP WANTED
The opening of a new school is exciting and wonderful, but also brings about unique challenges. We do not have, in place, some of the things that are common in most schools. We will need to build a PTO, we will need parents to serve on our Strategic Planning team, we also are requesting a few donations. Please read below to see how you can help our new school jump off to a fantastic start!!
HELP US START A PTO
PTO organizations are an important part of most elementary schools, helping with events and fundraising and adding to the culture of the school. Clear View is excited to start a PTO and needs parents that would be willing to serve on the PTO Board and take on this exciting challenging. Please see the link at the button below to sign up if you would be interested in serving on the PTO Board. We will schedule an interest meeting and then schedule elections.
PARENT REPRESENTATIVES NEEDED FOR OUR SCHOOL STRATEGIC PLANNING TEAM
The school's Strategic Plan sets the course for the next two years. Clear View is embarking on our first strategic plan and we need parent participation and input. Please see the link at the button below and sign up if you would be interested in serving as a parent representative on our Strategic Planning Team.

Maker Space is a great opportunity for students to explore their creativity, while linking design, literature, technology, music, art, and math. We are designing a Maker Space and are accepting donations of the following:
- Legos (large and small sizes)
- building blocks
- yarn or string
- popsicle sticks
- beads

MEDIA CENTER COMING TO LIFE
At the end of July, the truck rolled up with boxes and boxes of brand new books to stock our Media Center. Mrs. Jacobs, our Media Coordinator, and helpers from the district and from Follett Books, helped put it all together in one day. Mrs. Jacobs has since put the finishing touches on everything and the Media Center is ready for students!

STUDENT MEAL PRICE CHANGES
Since 2015, school meals have cost $1.25 for breakfast and $2.25 for lunch. Due to the increased costs of food and labor, starting in the 2022-2023 school year, lunch prices will increase to $2.50. Breakfast will remain $1.25.
With paid meal service returning, it is important that families prepare ahead of the new school year. If you have questions about meal service for the 2022-2023 school year, including how to apply for meal benefits starting in July or add money to your student’s account, please contact the OCS School Nutrition office at 910-455-2211. Click on the links below to apply for Free and Reduced lunch or to add money to your students lunch account.
CHANGES TO SCHOOL FEES FOR 2022-2023
Recent changes to School Fees have eliminated the $5.00 Instructional Fee and the $1.00 Art Fee for elementary students. The only school fee that will be required of elementary students will be the $25.00 computer fee. Fee Waivers are available in the main office after the start of the school year. All applicants for Fee Waivers must show proof of a Free/Reduced Lunch application.
