Gawalis. De, Devansh G

Mr. Mastapeter’s class
Hi this is Jordan from Mr. Mastapeter’s class
This past week we have been learning about volcanoes. We even got to do an experiment with water which we called thin lava and flour with water which we called thick lava. The winner was thick lava. In room 415 we have 2 class champions every week. One girl and one boy. If you are class champion then you have two free passes. One of them is a skip assignment pass. This means that when you do not want to do a lesson, you can cash your pass in to skip the assignment. We get to do fun things too. On Friday, we like to call it fun Friday because we either go outside for extra recess, play booklet, and play prodigy. In order to have fun Friday then you must finish all your homework and all the morning assignments. We also get tickets which we can buy passes with or you could do a class movie. A class movie pass means that we watch a movie. It is not cheap though. It cost 125 tickets and you would have to use your tickets with another person or just save up a lot. Mr. Mastapeter makes funny jokes and makes us all laugh. He also makes learning fun. Mr. Mastapeter is fair, if we do not earn fun Friday then we have to do writing assignments or science projects. Everyday we start math at 9:50 or 10:00. In math we are doing a lot of greater than, less than, and equal to. We are learning a lot about volcanoes and science. Mr. Mastapeter reads to us about heroes and history. This year is going to be a blast!

From our Teachers...
In Miss "K's Music Classes:
“K” & 1st graders have been reciting our classroom rules rhythmically while simultaneously clapping quarter notes, quarter rests, half notes, & eighth notes! Students are already learning note values & are able to clap out simple rhythms using both Rhythm Sticks as well as body percussion!
2nd grade students are getting VERY good at singing about being "Stinky Pirates!" (have them sing it for you at home)! We are also working on the 4 voice types: whispering, talking, shouting, & singing.
In 3rd grade, music students are working on echo songs as well as introducing METER! In a few weeks, students should be able to recognize whether a song is in a meter of 2/4, 3/4 or 4/4!
4th graders are using adjectives to describe themselves through our weekly attendance song & are beginning to work on more complicated rhythmic patterns that will include dotted quarter notes & half rests (in addition to reviewing note values learned in past years): quarters, halfs, rests, & eighth notes. They will also be getting an extra credit assignment where they may choose a song title that best describes them and then draw a picture to go along with that song title.
Finally, 5th grade students should be hard at work at home getting their commercial "Jingle Projects" ready! This week and last, students have randomly chosen a name-brand product that could be purchased in a food store. Now, they are creating a jingle advertisement to go along with the product they choose. All projects will either be performed live in class or submitted via a flip grid video between 8/26 and 8/30 (student choice). The best part is that family members can help & be involved in the creative process (they can even be IN any flipgrid videos made). Creativity for the win!!!!
Mrs. Gottlieb’s Kindergarten Class has been working so hard on writing their name and letters of the alphabet. They love FUN Fine Motor Fridays when they make their letter puppet for the week. It is always a magical day with Mrs. Gottlieb!
Gottlieb!
5th graders have been working hard at the new Ampify ELA program. Their first unit is on personal narratives. The students will be writing their own personal narratives throughout the unit. We will start to read the book Wonder, which is a great book about acceptance.
The third graders are enjoying reading The Wind in The Willows in our new reading series. They are entertained with the adventures of Toad, Mole, Badger and the Water Rat. We are also reading Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp.
Ms. Lima’s first grade class is doubling up in math! We are working on adding doubles and near doubles. We are reading fables and the kids are loving them. They have done so well deciphering the moral from each story. We will end our week making applesauce for Johnny Appleseed Day with Ms. Dutcher’s class!
