Macleans Primary School Community

Hi Everyone

There is always much happening at Macleans Primary School! The fortnightly newsletter captures much of what goes on, from teaching and learning to community events, so please keep on top of all things Macleans Primary and have a good read of this newsletter :))))

Great to see lots of parent support and help during our school-wide cross country on 28 July. Thanks to all who helped with marshalling and cheering on the kids! Since then the Y4-Y6 that was selected from the results of that day have competed at the inter-school and placed very well! Results of the school-wide country below and final results from the inter-school cross country and photos from the events will be in the next newsletter.

I am pleased to announce that we have set a date for our parent-teacher learning conferences. The parent-teacher conferences will take place on 30 and 31 August. The conferences on 30 August will begin at 3.15pm and on 31 August they will begin at 1pm (note an early school closing). The finish times are still to be confirmed. Each conference is between 12 and 15 minutes long and you will get a copy of the updated Macleans learning Pathway to take home with you. Bookings for conferences will be made online and will open on Monday 21 August @ 2pm. Details on how to login and book along with the finish times of the conferences will be shared shared soon.

Another 'date for your diary' is the open classes for Y4-6 on Wednesday 23 August and Y0-Y3 on Friday 25 August, both days 2.15-3pm. Come along and view some of your child's great learning and inquiry focus that has taken place over the past few weeks.

Well done PTA with the fun Pyjama Day held last week. Close to $500 was raised for the PTA which will go towards one of their money projects that they have on the go to support Macleans Primary School.

Thanks everyone and please enjoy this newsletter.

Regards & Nga Mihi

Board of Trustees Code of Conduct

The Macleans Primary School Board of Trustees (BoT) works very hard behind the scenes acting as Governors for the school and working with the Principal. The BoT code of conduct was developed together with national bodies representing the interests of Boards and other education organisations. It outlines the minimum standards of conduct that individual board members are required to meet in their role as a member of a school board. Individual school boards can decide to add to the minimum standards, as long as any additions do not go against the code issued by the Minister. The code of conduct will give board members a common basis to work from and encourages good board practice. Download the English Code of Conduct below. The code of conduct applies to all members of state and state integrated school boards. More information, including different languages versions of the Code of Conduct, can be found HERE

Sport Overview @ Macleans Primary School

There are a number of different sporting opportunities for children to get involved n at Macleans Primary. During the day, classes participate in Sport & PE lessons, with the focus sport being based on the season. ie. cricket in summer and football in winter.

There are three school-wide events throughout the year: swimming, cross country & athletics. These events are both participation and competitive, especially for the Year 4 to Year 6 children as the top children at these events will go to the inter-school competition. The fun element comes from the fact that we want all children to give-it-a-go and encourage a friendly house competition and spirit too!

We also have many different sporting organisations come in and run skill based sport activities during PE lessons (ie, Auckland for example). Private sporting organisations also provide paid programmes for children, typically after-school.

The Macleans Primary Sport Programme is overseen by Principal Matthew Cooke with main coordination of sport coming through a few teachers and teacher aide Amber Cambie.

We will always welcome any parent who wants to volunteer their time to coach a team or be involved in any sporting aspect, so please get in contact if you have any time and skills that you could offer as we will say a loud YES!

This year we are partnered with Sport Auckland to help develop our sport programme and increase participation and play for all, so watch out for some sporting developments over the next year or two.
