Mrs. McGeorge's Super Second Grade

Week of October 12

What We're Learning

Reading and Writing

We are still working on reading fluently this week. This is something we will practice throughout the year, but we are currently specifically practicing about how characters would say dialogue.

We are writing the final drafts of our personal narratives this week. We are trying to publish professional, neat pieces so we can share at the end of this week or the beginning of next week.

We are continuing our geometry unit. We are describing shapes by their number of sides. We are defining rectangles by their sides, angles, and areas. We will also start discussing symmetry by the end of the week.

Social Studies

We are reviewing what we learned last week about government--who the leaders are at the town, state, and country levels and how those leaders are elected. We will also learn about our nation's capital, Washington DC.

In Other News...

  • Thank you Derek and Aiden for the Box Tops! Moreau Heights collects Box Tops, Labels for Education, My Coke Rewards, and more. Our First Quarter collection date is Friday, October 23. Our class has already collected over 200 Box Tops! Go Team!
  • Our class is also participating in Book It! this year. Book It! is a program that allows students to celebrate their reading and hard work. We will use it in conjunction with our Reading Logs this year. If a student reads 100 minutes each week for a month, s/he will earn a free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut courtesy of Book It! We will be tracking student progress and celebrating our minutes in class as well. Learn more at
