Science- a "force" to be reckoned with....

Dear Parents,

First grade scientists are learning about forces- pushes and pulls. They have built marble ramps using insulation tubes and plastic marble runs. They discovered that friction is a force that slows another force down. The students designed pinwheels and wind catchers as we talked about the power of wind. We tested different textures to see what impact they had when sliding a block down our table. We tested different items (marble, car, cylinder, cube, etc.) to see which was the fastest. The children were thrilled when we launched a wooden truck and a real egg down our table to see if a seatbelt really works (it does )

We will continue our exploration of forces as we look for forces on the playground and play the classic game Mouse Trap. It should be a great way to end the first grade year!

Thanks for your continued support. Your kids are what make my job great!

Carpe Diem,
Diana Matthews
