Principal's Message
May has been a very productive month here at WCS! Over the past three weeks, all WCS students completed the New Hampshire Statewide Assessment System (NHSAS) assessment. Students worked hard and showed tremendous GRIT throughout the assessment. We could not be more proud of them for working hard and using all of their best skills to complete the assessment! Each single significant score is used to help project our school's overall performance for the 2018-19 school year.
We have a talented student body here at WCS and we had some noteworthy student performances over the past couple of weeks. The fifth grade did a phenomenal job in their performance of Schoolhouse Rock Live, Jr. under the direction of Mrs. Nancy Fothergill. This is a very special annual tradition at WCS and we know that our third and fourth grade students are looking forward to following in the fifth graders' footsteps when they are in fifth grade. This past week, the WCS fourth and fifth grade band and violin concerts showcased the talent of our exceptional young musicians led by band teacher Ms. Amy Buonpane. We cannot wait to see what next year brings for our fine arts department!
During our Grade 5/6 Parent Informational Night, we mentioned that our school next year will receive additional curriculum, instruction, and assessment support from our content-specific directors in the District. Prior to next year, their influence has primarily focused on supporting both WMS and WHS. We are excited to welcome their assistance with open arms. The team includes the following professionals:
Director of English Language Arts (ELA): Dr. Wendy Jack
Director of Mathematics: Ms. Cathy Croteau
Director of Social Studies: Mrs. Shannan McKenna
Director of Science: Mr. Michael Koski
It is hard to believe that we are stepping into June. We have several exciting events on the horizon including 3rd Grade Round-up Day, Step Up Day, Field Day and of course, the 5th grade trip to Canobie Lake Park.
Earlier this morning at our last Principal Coffee Hour of the year, our group touched upon the the upcoming Canobie Lake Park trip for fifth graders. As a clarifier, all field trips must begin and end at the school of origin (per WSB policy) and all students are required to return back to WCS. Passes to the park are valid for the whole day and students are welcome to return to the park after school hours. Please note: Last year, it came to my attention that several students were called in as absent to our school and went to Canobie Lake Park to join their classmates in order to avoid returning to school and to remain at the park for the full day. I urge families to please avoid this choice as it presents several concerns for safety and undermines our ability to coordinate a school sanctioned trip without incident. Thank you for listening!
Enjoy your weekend and Go Bs!
Sincerely,
Rory O'Connor
