Voyager Family News
Summer 2020/July 27
Strand Spotlights and Info:
Dear Voyager Families,
We hope you are enjoying your summer and staying safe and healthy! We miss you and are working diligently to plan distance learning together when school starts in August!
We recognize that you are making decisions about your child's learning options when school reopens. CUSD, based on state and county health and education department guidelines, will open the school year with distance learning in place for all enrolled students. For a sample of what Strand students' daily schedules may look like, please see the Distance Learning section below.
Our new childcare contractor, Champions, may offer childcare full and/or parttime during school closure to support children of working parents. Please see the Champions Childcare section below for access to a survey to express your interest in options.
- Our offices close for the month of July and will reopen to the public on August 17.
- Yearbooks not retrieved on Friday July 24 will be available in our office when we reopen August 17. Families who moved will be shipped their books in August.
- Our district is still providing meals for pickup on Mondays through the summer from 11 to 1 PM.
- Did you know that our district is contracting with a new childcare program this school year, called Champions? Last winter, Ms. Moore toured an elementary school with the Champions program and was impressed with their organization and variety of enriching activities. If you anticipate needing childcare before or after school this year, learn more about Champions here.
- Please register ASAP for School Year 2020-21 unless you are SURE your child will not be returning. We want to count you in, and plan for an amazing year of learning! Registration information is here.
Online registration is required for all returning and new CUSD students. Parents of returning and new students need to complete online registration by June 15th. The attached flyer provides registration instructions and links to view and download required registration documents. New this Year - Parents are now able to upload required documents while registering online. Parents of returning students are strongly encouraged to upload documents and by doing so will no longer be required to attend a registration completion day in August. Parents of new students are also encouraged to upload required documents but will still be required to attend a registration complete day in August by appointment only.
Ms. Moore will continue to stay in touch with families throughout the summer via our website, intermittent family newsletters, and Facebook.

Champions Childcare: Potential Support During School Closure/Distance Learning!
Dear Families,
I hope this message finds you and your loved ones safe and well. Since California’s update last week, there have been many questions from our families about whether or not Champions can help.
We are currently evaluating next steps if and when your school goes online-only. We would like to understand your childcare needs so that we can offer programming that supports your family wherever possible.
Will you need childcare during school closures and/or distance learning?
Please fill out this form to let us know by July 31st!
Distance Learning:
- Champions will be following strict safety precautions as prescribed by Public Health, the department of Social Services, and your school. Click here for a video tour of a program that is currently operating with COVID precautions in place. As we have more information about how our programs will evolve, we will update you!
- Children will be supported with their distance learning during the “typical” school day, and can expect fun and engaging (physically distant) activities outside of this time.
- If there is enough of a need, we will explore part time programming, such as half days, or just a few days per week (please fill out the survey above).
- At this time, we are not able to offer drop-in/weekly schedule changes for health and safety.
On-Campus Learning:
- When schools return to campus, we will offer programs that adjust to any new bell schedules
- If you think you will need before and after school care when we return to campus, please enroll on www.discoverchampions.com. While your spot will be saved, billing will not resume until school returns to campus.
In two weeks, when the needs of the community have been evaluated, we will send an update on next steps with enrollment for Fall.
With warmth and gratitude,
Robyn Clark
