A Note from Mrs. Booth...
You may have noticed the following handout was given to you during your conference. It is an explanation of our Schoolwide Reading Wildly Important Goal.
Goal setting and reflection is an important routine implemented in all classrooms. Students create academic goals based on their personal growth needs that align with school improvement goals. Each student writes a Reading Academic WIG each card marking that is aligned directly to their next steps for Reading. Through the use of lead measures, students track their progress daily. Students meet daily with their accountability partner to reflect and analyze their progress, thus allowing students to see the direct impact their lead measures have on their goals. The lead measures are tracked on a scoreboard daily within the student leadership portfolios. Classroom WIGS are tracked on a classroom scoreboard and Schoolwide Academic WIGS are also tracked weekly on a schoolwide scoreboard.
How can you help your student meet their goal at home?
Know what your child’s Reading WIG is. Your child should also be able to tell you what their goal is.
Discuss your child’s goal and the Lead Measures for reaching their goal.
Help your student practice those lead measures at home.
Be your child’s accountability partner at home.
The scoreboard below can be used to help track the hard work you are doing at home to help students and ultimately, our school, meet our Reading Goals!
How to use this at home?
- Each night, complete at least one of the Lead Measures on the list.
- Mark on the scoreboard which Lead Measures you completed.
- Celebrate successes along the way!
We thank you for all the support at home!
Be well,
Mrs. Booth

From our Student Lighthouse Team...
Senior Cheer
The Student Lighthouse Community Service Action team would like your help to spread some holiday cheer this season. We will be collecting donations of holiday cards or cards with kind messages as well as toiletries (like shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, soap, lotion, toothpaste etc.) to give to our local seniors living in nursing homes or adult foster care facilities. The project will run from November 28th-December 16th. The collection boxes will be near the front office. Thank you for helping us to spread some joy to our local seniors.
Toys for Tots
The Student Lighthouse Community Service Action Team is excited to announce an upcoming service project! Silver Springs Elementary will be an official collection site for the US Marine Toys for Tots 2022 campaign.
Please send in any new unwrapped toys to Silver Springs from Nov. 7-Dec. 9th. No stuffed animals, please. Keep this project in mind as you begin your holiday shopping!
We can’t wait to see our Silver Springs community synergize to make this holiday season a little brighter for some very needy children!

SILVER SPRINGS SKATING NIGHT
Monday, December 12, from 6:00-8:00pm at the Skatin Station.
Cost is $10, including skate rental.
All are welcome! See the PTA Events page for details.
PTA PROVIDES DINNER AND REFRESHMENTS FOR STAFF DURING CONFERENCES
On Wednesday, Dec. 2, the PTA was delighted to serve dinner to the entire Silver Springs staff from Cantoro’s, including pear & apple salad, orzo & grilled vegetable salad, honey glazed carrots, chicken piccata, and fettuccine primavera. We also stocked the teachers’ lounge with cold beverages, Diet Coke, sparkling water, and K-Cups for their coffee machine. Kathy Chalhoub and her family provided sweet treats for desserts.
On Thursday, Dec. 3, the PTA provided huge tray full of fresh vegetables, hummus, and ranch, plus large trays of fresh fruit.
Silver Springs families are grateful for all that our amazing staff does. The PTA wanted to provide some nourishment and much-needed fuel to help teachers get through the long days of conferences. Many teachers already sent us thank you notes and expressed how much they appreciated this!!
TEACHERS’ FAVORITE THINGS LISTS – POSTED THIS WEEKEND!!!
Parents often love to show appreciation to their child's teacher and the Silver Springs PTA loves to help you do that! The Silver Springs PTA is providing TEACHERS’ FAVORITE THINGS LISTS, with fun facts compiled from the teacher survey this school year.
Of course, there is ZERO obligation. Gifts to teachers are never expected, but any gift is always appreciated. We hear teachers often say their favorite gift is a handwritten note from the student. However, if you would like to do something more at the holidays, during Teacher Appreciation Week (May 1-5), or any other time of the year, the Teachers’ Favorite Things lists give some hints.
All Teachers’ Favorite Things, including classroom teachers, specials teachers, and other school staff, will be posted online in this folder by Monday, December 5, which is also accessible from the PTA website: www.silverspringspta.com.

PTA TRIVIA… DID YOU KNOW??? There are over FIFTY ways our PTA provides support and enrichment, directly impacting your child’s education.
WHAT DOES THE PTA DO? Check out the Silver Springs PTA program plan for this year – it’s the master list of PTA events, activities, assemblies, staff support, products, and improvements for 2022-2023. From the Multicultural Fair, to the yearbook, to Kona Ice treat day, to spirit wear – we invest PTA funds, time, sweat, and energy into it all.
SO HOW DOES ALL THIS GET DONE? With YOUR help, of course!!
PTA programs and events only run when parents take the lead or volunteer.
🙋🏾 If you have very little time but can squeak out a few minutes here and there – we need you!
🙋🏼♂️ If you’re busy, but can lean in, even just a few hours – we need you!
🙋🏻♀️ Whether you’re creative, a great planner, tech savvy, or none of the above – we need you!
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Are you new? Need a refresher on what committees do? Want to know some details before you sign up? Here’s the nitty gritty on over 25 different committees.
Ready to dive in? Sign up here! We have posted a Sign-Up Genius of all the volunteer openings we currently have. Whether you want to be a chairperson, serve on a committee, or volunteer only once in a while, we have a spot for you!
The PTA is looking for any and all who want to help. Due to bylaws and insurance reasons, any chairperson must be a PTA member. If you're not a member yet, it's super easy to sign up! If you want to join, but the $15 dues fee is a hardship for you, please contact us!
BOOK CLUB
Pick up your copy of the book “Free-Range Kids” by Lenore Skenazy for the book club discussion happening on February 6. Mrs. Booth has 15 free copies available.
PTA MEETINGS
The next PTA meeting is Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at 9:00am at Silver Springs. (No meeting in December.) We work hard to schedule some meetings in the evenings, but also offer a few during the morning to accommodate different schedules. Check the schedule for the whole year at www.silverspringspta.com
Parents, we hope you can join us! If you have little kiddos at home, we’d love for them to join too! Ms. Silence will be our guest speaker, teaching us about Social Emotional Learning and Zones of Regulation – so the topic is perfect, whether you come with adults or your littles.
BIRTHDAY LUNCHES
The Birthday Lunch program is a fun way to celebrate your child’s special day and the funds raised from this program directly benefit PTA programs. Win-win! To sign up and select your date, parents may submit a request form and a donation (any amount) to the PTA. Or, it’s even easier to sign up and donate online. On your child’s day, you can come and join them for lunch! Some parents choose to bring a special lunch or a treat. You get to sit at the Birthday Lunch table near the MPR, which will be decorated with a tablecloth and birthday napkins. Book now to ensure you get your spot, even if it’s later in the year. Please book at least two weeks in advance to ensure our volunteers are available.
INVEST IN YOUR CHILD
What is Invest In Your Child? IIYC is the one, big, annual fundraiser that supports all the awesome PTA programs, events, and activities benefiting our school and community! Silver Springs PTA simply asks families to make a one-time donation, rather than bothering with door-to-door sales or other time-consuming efforts. No one is required to donate, and any amount is valued! To learn more about how these funds benefit our school, visit our “Invest In Your Child” page. You can donate online via MemberHub or by sending in the form to school, along with check or cash. Thank you!
JOIN THE PTA
All are welcome, whether you want to be involved hardly at all or a whole lot! Visit our Membership Page for all the details.
