Farley Elementary School's Weekly Family Update
THOUGHTS and THANK YOUS
Dear Farley Families,
Special thanks this week goes to our new Superintendent, Dr. Brian Reagan, for meeting with me last Friday after the Memorial Day Celebration. Although he is technically not "on the clock" yet, Dr. Reagan has made it a priority to reacquaint himself with the Hudson Schools and get to know staff prior to his arrival in July. Dr. Reagan's own two children were Farley Foxes so he has experienced, firsthand, our strong community. Next year at this time, he has promised us he will be joining us at our Memorial Day Celebration!
Rusty, Mrs. Scanlon's rescue pup who the students love, would like to wish everyone a Happy Pride Month! Here at Farley Elementary, every student and staff member matters. Together, we teach, support, and nurture the potential in every human that enters our building. ALL are welcome here. Happy PRIDE Month to every LGBTQI+ student, staff member, and the friends and families that support them!
Lastly, Hawaiian Shirt Day June Fridays was a hit! Staff and students were feeling summer vibes today as they sported their colorful attire. Next Friday is Farley Fun Day...volunteers should feel free to wear their Hawaiian shirts too! I hope to see you there!
Read Always,
Rachel Scanlon (she, her, hers)

FARLEY'S NANCY OLSON WINS PARAEDUCATOR AWARD!
For the second year in a row, one of Farley's paraeducators has won Hudson's Paraeducator of the Year Award! Below is the nomination letter from staff members. This write-up will also be read aloud at next week's Hudson's Evening of Celebration. We are so proud of you Nancy!
This letter was written by Jaime Leger, Jen Lewis, and Stacy Macleod:
Nancy Olson is deserving of the Darcia Constantine Award because she makes a positive impact on students every single day. As we all know, our para-educators are the heart and soul of our school communities. Nancy not only exemplifies this quality, but exceeds it. She is dedicated, passionate, and committed to meeting the needs of all learners. She is an invaluable member of our team, consistently going above and beyond to support the needs of our students and staff.
Nancy demonstrates a deep understanding of the unique needs of our students, many of whom require special accommodations and support. Through her interactions with these students she has developed strong and trusting relationships. The students not only thrive under Nancy’s tutelage, but they look forward to working with her and happily skip off when it is their time. Nancy’s commitment to the success of our students is evident through her willingness to lend a hand in any way necessary. Whether it is running a math group or providing a listening ear to a student who needs a break, Nancy is always ready to do what is best for our students.
A perfect example of Nancy’s willingness to go above and beyond for anyone at Farley School took place over the winter when she noticed a student peeking out of the boy’s bathroom. After a quick check-in with the student, Nancy learned that the child had had an accident and was too embarrassed to walk to the nurse’s office for new clothing. Without hesitation, Nancy took her jacket and wrapped it around the student’s waist. She then escorted him to the nurse with his dignity intact.
As you can see, Nancy wears many hats throughout her busy day. She is always eager to jump in where needed with a keen focus on keeping students’ needs at the forefront. Our school is very fortunate to have such a dedicated para-educator who goes above and beyond every day. This is why we feel that Nancy exemplifies the qualities held dear to Darcia Constantine, and is very deserving of this honor.

QUINN STAFF TO PERFORM FOR COMMUNITY
Please read the following from Quinn ELA teachers Ms. Lahey and Mr. Kubicek:
This year in ELA, Quinn students read an abridged version of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. They learned about Shakespeare’s time, Elizabethan history, and a little bit about the history of theatre.
Normally, the ELA staff try to take their students to see a live performance of the play once they are done reading. Unfortunately, they could not find an accessible performance this year.
The ELA staff was so devastated that they decided to ask their colleagues for help. So, now they have an exciting, unique announcement to make…
For the first time ever, the Quinn Middle School staff will be performing an abridged version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Hudson High School on Thursday, June 8, 2023 at 7pm. That’s right-- 22 different members of the Quinn staff volunteered their free time to spend the last 3 months rehearsing for our first-ever staff production! You can check out the program of performers here!
All Hudson community members will be welcome for the performance, but 6th graders and their families/friends will have priority seating for the event.
The tickets to see the show are FREE, but we are accepting donations of any size for the QMS Theater and ELA Departments.
TEAM ANNE!
As many of you know from reading about our Farley Gives Back Bingo Night, our beloved cafeteria staff member, Anne Hubert is battling cancer. She will let you know how you can go about paying for the shirt and where you can pick up it when it is ready!
