Hello CG Families!
Happy Spring! I hope each of you had a wonderful Spring Break with your children. I love when the students come back from the break and share their stories with me about what they did. Even if it was just hanging out around the house or with friends, you can tell that having some time off is exactly what they needed.
We are getting close to the end of this school year and before we all know it, May 26th will be here. Testing season is quickly approaching as well. The district offers students the opportunity to test out of a subject each summer. If you child is interested in doing this, please email me and I will help you get registered for the test.
This month's character trait that will be discussed with our students is Courage. It is very hard at this age to have the courage to stand up to others so I am happy that we get to discuss it with our kiddos. With what is going on in the world right now, there are countless examples of bravery that you could discuss with your children. Here are some tips on how you can help your child build the courage that they will need to help them be successful in life.
1. Explain that brave people don't always feel "brave". More often than not, most people feel some fear when they are about to do something "brave". It is our minds way of protecting us.
2. Affirm your child's bravery. When you observe them doing something "brave" praise them for it.
3. Give your child permission to "mess up". If you child fears failure, then they will be less likely to put themselves out there.
4. Encourage them to try new things. They will never know if they like something or can do something unless they try.
5. Set a good example. Share stories of times when you were nervous, felt scared or had to stand up for yourself. It is good for your child to know that you had fears and conquered them.
