Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 9th December 2016
candlelit cathedral
community christingle
This really was a community event, made possible by the Cathedral and a willing army of volunteers led by Mrs Denney, our Chair of Governors, and Canon Ruth. It started early Monday morning with the collection of oranges from Booths (thank you for the free donation!) and continued all day. Every child made a Christingle with the help of the volunteers, and stayed on after school for a jacket potato provided by the Cathedral and cooked and served by our caterers. The twilit walk to the Cathedral continued the excitement. We were so proud of our children for their more reflective mood once the service started.
The Children's Society also supported by providing other materials for the Christingle oranges, so if you could send back the envelopes which went home this week with a donation, it would be much appreciated, thank you.
Thank you friends - you're amazing!
We are sure everyone who visited the Friends' Christmas Fair yesterday will have realised just how much work that wonderful group of volunteers must have done to set up all those activities, stalls, raffles and tombolas. The preparation started weeks ago too, sourcing so many fantastic prizes. Thank you amazing Friends and congratulations to all the winners!
Thanks also to all the donations of raffle prizes, cakes and mince pies, and for coming along to support the fair. All money raised really does go to enhance your children's school (continue reading to see the grand total in the Friends' bit). A final thank you to the school staff for all their help.

christmas dinner
Our school Christmas lunch is on Wednesday 14th December. We have sent a letter to children who normally bring a packed lunch inviting them to join in, but have assumed everyone else will have a school meal as usual. Of course, the menu will be different to the published one that day! We will be enjoying roast turkey and stuffing, sausage wrapped with bacon, roast potatoes, peas, carrots and sprouts. For afters, there will be the choice of ice cream and Christmas shortbread, Christmas pudding and white sauce, or fresh fruit.
As it is Christmas lunch day we are allowing children to wear something Christmassy. Not a fancy dress day but they can accessorise, maybe a tinsel tie, hat, hair bobble or a pair of antlers?
christmas post box
Our Christmas post box is in the library. Please be sure to name cards clearly, also with the class of the recipient. The cards will be sorted and delivered daily by the Year 6 elves.
christmas presents
It's not too late to bring a present for a local charity - Monday is collection day! Thank you.
poorly tummies (and other little nasties!)
Unfortunately we seem to have been hit by a tummy bug recently, and quite a few sniffs and sneezes. Please would you remind your child of the importance of thoroughly washing hands after going to the toilet, using their hand to cover their mouth if coughing, and using a tissue. Thank you.
christmas, a time of giving
We have been teaching the children that Christmas is a time to give as well as receive. We are collecting for the Children's Society. Please support their great work by putting some spare change into the envelopes that came home this week.
