CONGRATULATIONS TO CARLOS NODARSE AND KEN ZURICH
Carlos Nodarse named BCA’s “Teacher of the Year”
Congratulations to Carlos Nodarse for being named BCA's "Teacher of the Year" by his colleagues. Carlos has done a great job in the Mechatronics Lab working with students to imagine, design and create prototypes of new inventions. Immediately upon entering the Mechatronics lab, Mr. Nodarse will proudly describe the myriad of current projects that his students are working on. From automatic pill dispensers, to autonomous robots, to miniature submarines and so much more. If you would like to learn more about the types of projects his students are working on you can check out their videos below. Congratulations Carlos!
Ken Zurich named BCA’s Educational Services Professional of the Year
Congratulations also to Mr. Ken Zurich, our Lead Teacher in the Guidance Department, who has been named our “Educational Services Professional of the Year.” Ken has done an outstanding job working with his fellow counselors and coordinating the services of our School Counseling Department. As you know, the counseling department offers a wide array of services for our students and families. Whether it’s regional college tours, BCA’s College Fair, the College Exploration Experience (CEE) or providing wellness and counseling services for our students, Ken works diligently to insure that our students get the support they need. Congratulations Ken!
BCA WELCOMES VISTORS FROM AMERICAN COLLEGE OF GREECE

OUR GREEK VISITORS
The Bergen County Academies, AVPA continued their sister school collaboration with Pierce College/American College of Greece (a high school in Athens Greece) when 14 Pierce students and 3 teachers visited BCA for a week long study abroad experience this April. The partnership included joint educational projects between our students and cultural engagements in New Jersey and New York City. The highlight of the visit was the BCA families providing homestays for the Greek students which allowed for a broader global experience with the BCA community. The educational culmination of the trip was a production by the Greek students where they performed Woman’s Voices , a combination of Antigone by Sophocles and Electra and Medea by Euripides that highlighted the three tragic heroines who each undergo their own misfortune that characterized the female gender.
Dr. Nektaria Glinou, Director of Global programs for Pierce College summed up the trip with – “A huge Thank you! We wholeheartedly thank you for your unparalleled hospitality!!
We all had an absolutely wonderful and enriching week. Please share with all your amazing students and parents our warmest thanks.”

ALUMNI HIGHLIGHT
LUCIA MANZO - CLASS OF 2004
Lucia graduated from the Academy of Business and Computer in 2004 (yes, it existed back then!), and she went on to study at Columbia University where she double majored in Economics and Italian Cultural Studies. Ironically, Lucia was able to continue sporting & supporting her BCA Field Team “Blue” as Columbia’s school color happens to be one in the same. Lucia graduated from Columbia in 2008 and worked for the largest Global Asset Manager, BlackRock in NYC. Lucia watched first hand in 2008 how the great recession impacted some of the largest national corporations and is proud to have been part of brilliant teams that helped craft managed strategies which overcame the crisis.
In the late fall of 2012, Lucia took a great risk in her career and became a founding member and core executive at the social media start-up technology firm, Sverve. Lucia took Sverve from zero revenue to a million dollars after the first year. In February 2016, Sverve was acquired by Bloglovin’, where Lucia is now leading Pre/Post sales operations. Outside of work, Lucia is an active alumna of Columbia University, serving on the Columbia Women in Business Board and mentoring students. Her passion for mentoring started at BCA in the SPARK program! In Lucia’s free time, she enjoys traveling and experiencing new adventures such as her recent trip exploring northern Spain and hiking along“El Camino De Santiago.” - Alumni Winnie Lau
