Recognizing Retirees & Years of Service

District 103 is proud to honor three educators who have spent a portion of their lives teaching and serving our children.
Daniel Wright Technology Specialist Ann Blomberg will retire after 25 years in District 103
Daniel Wright Secretary Janet Lyman will retire after 24 years in District 103
Sprague First-Grade Teacher Helen Friedli will retire after 9 years in District 103
Of their retirement, Dr. Scott Warren, Superintendent, said, "Each of these individuals has played a crucial role in helping our children grow to be Leaders in Learning and preparing them to be role models even after they leave our district. These retirees leave a legacy of positivity impacting our families."
Ann BlombergMrs. Blomberg’s relationship with District 103 began years before she started working here. She volunteered as a room mother and held other support positions at Sprague School as well as served on PTO committees. Once in retirement, Mrs. Blomberg plans to spend more time traveling and decorating her new home. She will miss the Daniel Wright staff camaraderie but knows she will keep in touch with some of them. | Janet LymanMrs. Lyman has many memories of working at Daniel Wright but highlights her time as a coach with the Science Olympiad team, which she called an enriching, educational, and rewarding experience. Her three children went through D103 schools and her daughter now teaches eighth-grade social studies at Daniel Wright. After taking a much needed break and focusing on family time, Mrs. Lyman would like to work at the Chicago Botanic Garden, volunteer at senior citizen homes as well as at Misericordia where she can have direct contact with people. Like Mrs. Blomberg, Mrs. Lyman will miss the people, their talents, compassion, and always doing their best for students. | Helen FriedliMrs. Friedli has enjoyed a varied job career from teaching first-grade to enjoying the practice of corporate law for over 30 years before that. Most of her career focused on mergers and acquisitions but the firm’s pro bono services lead Mrs. Friedli to tutor students in reading, which eventually inspired her to become a teacher. “It became clear to me that spending one's days helping children to learn and grow is the best job in the world,” she said. Upon reflecting about her career here, Mrs. Friedli said she was impressed with the student-focused dedication and professional collaboration at Sprague where they embrace the whole child, socially as well as academically. In her retirement years, Mrs. Friedli plans to retire to Colorado where she will enjoy hiking in the mountains and find ways to continue working with children. |
