Message from the Principal
VIS Families
As we reflect on the rapidly approaching conclusion to our 2020-21 school year, it is safe to say it has been a year unlike any other. Despite all of the ever-changing guidance around COVID, anxieties around potential closure/re-opening, quarantines, and new approaches to virtual learning, collectively, the VIS community made the most of an unprecedented experience and as a result may silver linings emerged.
As I write the final newsletter for this school year, I am filled with a great sense of pride and admiration for our students, staff, and families who all went above and beyond the call of duty, taking on roles and responsibilities that often felt very different from years past. It is one thing to persevere through momentary struggle, yet quite another to do so for 15 months. To witness this from the perspective of a building principal has been my privilege and I have appreciated all of the feedback and support which was necessary to maximize learning for our students this year.
Several weeks ago, I had the opportunity to visit all of our 6th grade homerooms to review re-opening procedures, answer questions, and wish our students well as they complete their time at VIS and begin to think about transition to the Junior High. I shared with our students that this group of students is without question more prepared to move on to the Junior High than any before given the challenges they have overcome; I truly meant that as these students (as well as our 4th and 5th graders) have acquired skills in areas such as technology, independence, responsibility, and time-management through authentic experiences that were not always required in a pre-COVID school setting. Our teachers and administrators learned a multitude of skills as well and we look forward to harnessing these insights as we strive to improve in a post-COVID world which hopefully is on the horizon.
As we conclude our year, we look forward to celebrating Field Days with our students on the following dates:
4th Grade – June 14th
5th Grade – June 15th
6th Grade – June 16th
Homeroom teachers will be sharing specific information regarding your child’s Field Day. Lastly, we look forward to celebrating our 6th graders with a virtual Award Ceremony on June 23rd followed by our traditional Moving-Up Day Picnic. These activities are well-deserved and I know our staff looks forward to these events as well.
Thank you for your continued support, and please do not hesitate to reach out should you have any questions as we move towards the conclusion of our school year.
Sincerely,
Kevin Swartz

Chromebook Return
We hope your child/children had a positive experience using one of the District issued Chromebooks this year. In order to properly prepare for the 2021-2022 school year and Victor’s first 1 to 1 initiative, we are asking that all District issued Chromebooks be returned to the Technology Department. The Technology Department is located in the District Office right by the Early Childhood School.
You do not need to sign up to come to return the device - you can simply pick a time that works the best for you and your family. We need the Chromebook, charger, and if issued, hotspot back. Below are the times:
Monday, June 21 from 7:00 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Tuesday, June 22 from 7:00 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Wednesday, June 23 from 7:00 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Thursday, June 24 from 7:00 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Friday, June 25 from 7:00 a.m. to 4 p.m.
