Hi All,
Thanksgiving week is here! As a reminder, there will be no school this Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and no homework. I encourage everyone to have a restful and relaxing few days away.
This past week, students received their 1st Quarter report cards as well as Parent-Teacher Conference sign-up forms. Please ask for them! Conferences will take place Thursday, November 29th in the afternoon from 12-2:30PM and again in the evening from 6:30-8:30PM. The 29th is a half day for MHS students with 10:30AM dismissal.
Please be reminded that the Thanksgiving Day Football Game has been changed- the Mansfield Varsity Football Team will be playing their annual game against Foxboro at Fenway Park on Tuesday, November 20th at 7:30PM. Tickets must be purchased in advance (see the MHS Athletics homepage). Student spectator buses are being provided- seats must be reserved in advance.
Congratulations to the cast and crew of Mrs. California- the production was outstanding!
To close, I wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving with friends and family. I am thankful for each and every one of our students and staff members at MHS, and for the continual outflow of support for education shown by this community!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Best regards,
Mary Watkins
New Drop Off Procedures
At the Mansfield Public Schools, student safety is top priority. At the present time, we recognize the need to improve the conditions during student drop off in the morning at MHS and QMS. Effective Monday, November 5, vehicles will not be aloud to enter the “bus loop” between 6:45 am and 7:25 am. Students at MHS should be dropped off either at the side entrance by the Athletic Wing or from the East Street parking spots which were created for this purpose. We thank you for your understanding!
Grandparents Raising Grandchildren
If you are a grandparent parenting for the second time around, please come to a local support group sponsored by the Mansfield Public Schools and the Council on Aging. We hope to connect adults parenting later in life. Come make some supportive friends while you compare stories and resources.
There will be an informal meet and greet on Tuesday December 4 at the Council on Aging at the Mansfield Library. There will be information on Mass Health, Medicare/Medicaid, fuel assistance, daycare providers, and homework tips. Give yourself a night off from making dinner - bring children with you for pizza and crafts.

Mansfield Public Library
History Department
After getting an informative and helpful overview of the resources at Bridgewater State University by the college librarian, Mrs. Svoboda, the students were able to use the resources at BSU to enhance their research and get a taste of what a college library is like.
Accessing databases, pursuing books, and looking through resources, the students worked to expand their knowledge on a broad array of topics ranging from modern to ancient history and local to world.
Students will then use this newly gained knowledge to create a project for National History Day and compete at the school contest on January 30, 2019.

AFL-CIO Scholarship Program
The Annual AFL-CIO Scholarship Program is in its 61st year. Through the scholarship program, the Massachusetts AFL-CIO is honored to continue a long tradition of helping students continue their education as they work toward creating bright futures.
The Massachusetts AFL-CIO scholarship program awardees receive between $500 and $16,000 towards their education. Over 40 unions, central labor councils, area businesses and charitable trusts from across Massachusetts participate in awarding scholarships that total nearly half a million dollars. Unions in Massachusetts have given close to $10 million in scholarships since 2000. About 1,500 students take the exam annually to compete for a scholarship. Students with a union affiliation are eligible for both the Massachusetts AFL-CIO awards and those awards listed under their specific local union/central labor council. Massachusetts students that do not have union affiliation are eligible for the Massachusetts AFL-CIO scholarships only.
