Readers Workshop
The structure looks like this:
- mini-lesson whole group learning a certain skill or new teaching point
- private reading
- partner reading
I have LOVED watching these friends shock themselves when they realize they are able to read these stories ALL BY THEMSELVES without me reading the words to them. We started Old Favorite books this week with stories like Gingerbread Man, Three Billy Goats Gruff, Are You My Mother? ... these stories kids have heard before. They can open these stories, remember them from reading them before and retell the story by looking at the pictures.
This is real reading. Your kids are READING!!! ..... and don't worry, of course reading the words will come later. Encourage your children at home to keep this hard work up!!! We want to instill the LOVE of reading at home and at school, and this is just the beginning! :)
"Driving" to music and comparing numbers with our friends
Officer Tee is our very own Coppell ISD Community Helper and serves as a School Resource Officer for our district. He came in to talk to Kindergarten about his job and the kids absolutely loved him!
Family Friday Lunch!
Ice Cream at Lunch
I just wanted to let you guys know that it's an option for your kiddo. Students don't have to buy lunch in order to buy ice cream, they can just buy ice cream! We ALWAYS encourage eating our healthy foods first, and then the ice cream- no worries there. I just ask that you discuss with your child in the morning if they are allowed to buy ice cream.
Please chat with your child about if they are allowed/not allowed to go and get ice cream from the line- this will help us in the lunchroom each day.
Thank you so much!!
Heart Map- Please complete and send these back as soon as they are complete!
Writing people's names can be really helpful, instead of writing "brother", write brother's name next to the illustration.
Family Friday Lunch
Click the Link Below to sign up to join your child for Family Friday lunch on Fridays! This is when you get to eat with your child in the cafeteria during our regular lunchtime from 10:15-10:45 am. The office is asking that this year, you sign up by noon on Thursday before so the office is able to batch print. In the past, it has seemed to be a lengthy process and they are hoping this won't take as long to get parents in the building. PLEASE make sure you do the sign up if you plan on attending lunch with your child.
