October 17-23

Mrs. Zabroski and Mrs. Hookie

This is NOT a late start day. School will be starting at 8:00-8:20 like regular days. Dismissal will be at 12:45.

Parent Homework-Zabroski

On Monday a Parent Homework sheet will be sent home with your child. The paper is for YOU the parent to fill out. Please fill this sheet out and return it on Tuesday to school with your child. This information will help guide and give valuable information when discussing your child at conferences.

Just a reminder that next weeks choir rehearsal will be moved to Tuesday, October 20th, rather than Thursday due to Parent Teacher Conferences.

Also, many students have yet to turn in their $8 for a choir shirt. If you have placed an online order but have not paid, you will not receive a shirt. T-shirt money is due no later than Tuesday, October 20th. If purchasing a choir t-shirt creates financial hardship for your family, please let us know so that arrangements can be made.

Thank you for your commitment to choir and have a great weekend,

Whitney J. Duncan & Patty Rick

Parent Teacher Conferences are October 21 and 22

If you have not signed up for a conference time, you still have time to sign up... Grade cards will be sent home at conferences.

The Pick-A-Time for this year's Parent/Teacher Conferences is now available!! The web address is https://pickatime.com/client?ven=11610650 and links are located on the PVE website. Students brought home a letter Thursday to share the process of scheduling your conferences this fall. An example letter is attached - your student's will have their specific name and password to be used in the upper right hand corner. If you have questions, please contact the office at 986-2284.

We finished our Math DSA over decimal place value this week, students should have brought their score sheet home over the weekend. We will begin multiplication and division of decimals.

This week we will be working to build background knowledge on our new novel study, Number the Stars, by Lois Lowry. This is a historical fiction book about two ten year-old girls living in Denmark during the Nazi Germany rain and the Danish Resistance that took place. We will be starting the actual book on Thursday, October 29. This gives students ample time to build strong background knowledge on the time period that the book takes place in.

At conferences you will be seeing students' monthly reading goals that they fill out on our Google Classroom site, along with their reading logs and reading minutes from 1st quarter. These can be used as great tools for goal setting for 2nd quarter. I will also be giving you their final unit assessment for reading and for writing.

Our next unit in writing will be Informative writing pieces. This unit will start on Monday, October 26.

SCIENCE/Social Studies

We will finish up studying the scientific method with another experiment. We will also look at Missouri history this week in honor of Missouri Day on Wednesday.
