Walk-A-Thon Information
6 more days until Walk-A-Thon!! We had an amazing first counting day today, raising just over $8,000!!! Keep collecting to help us beat last year's totals of $25,000. Walk-A-Thon is one of our leading fundraisers and all of the money collected goes directly back to our students and staff at E.H. Greene. You can continue to make pledge donations online at http://tinyurl.com/EHGreeneWalkathon. We'll have more fabulous raffles on Thursday -Walk-A-Thon Day! We returned the envelopes to the students, so they can continue collecting pledges. We will do a final collection on the day of the Walk-A-Thon, September 27th.
15 % of our fundraising will be allocated to support a community service project for E.H. Greene students, parents, and staff, so “no student sleeps on the floor in our district”.
We can still use volunteers to help make Walk-A-Thon a success. Please consider helping as a monitor or counter. You can walk with your child too! Sign up at:
https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60b0a4da9a729a02-walkathon

From the Principal
This model has created some questions about how we place students on teams. We have continued to use the process of asking families to list friends they would like their child to be placed with in a homeroom. We are currently examining that process to ensure we place students with teachers who will highlight their learning strengths.
As a parent, and after talking to many of our families, PBL isn't for every student. During my experience at the Greene School what has stood out most from an instructional standpoint is how we have so many strong teachers. I spend much of my time in classrooms and interacting with your children. There is no doubt in my mind that they are receiving the best education and experience possible this year, regardless of what team they are on.
I believe the Greene School experience is second to none. Before the school year started, I challenged my staff to help share the story of the Greene School experience. We have to be aware that we can either share our story or allow someone else to share it for us. This can obviously become a problem. Our students are much like I was when I was a 5th and 6th grader. When I came home from school and was asked what I did, my typical response was, "Nothing." When community members have access to see the experience in some classrooms, but not others, the story gets distorted. There is not one team that I value or provide additional resources to over another. Much of the change in the Greene School is initiated by our wonderful staff. With that being said, you will be able to see more of a day in the life a of a Greene School student on our social media accounts. Check them out below. I also want to share a resource with you if you are trying to get a different answer from your child about how their school day was. Here is an article: 25 Ways to Ask Your Kids ‘So How Was School Today?’ Without Asking Them ‘So How Was School Today?’ Should you have questions about this or anything else at the Greene School, please contact me so we can talk.

PBIS for Parents
This week’s video features cafeteria behavior. Please review this video with your child and emphasize the importance of including others. We work hard to make sure no one sits alone at lunch. Another important skill in the cafeteria is cleaning up after yourself. Our custodians clean the tables in between groups, but it’s a big help to have the students clean up after themselves. Please see the link below to view the video.
Have you heard about our First Classes Passes? Be sure to ask your child about why they might receive a First Class Pass and what rewards they can “buy” with them.
Box Tops for Education
Please begin clipping and mark your calendars for our fall Box Tops collection, October 1-5. The wing in each grade that collects the most box tops will receive an extra recess! Students should please turn Box Tops in to their homeroom teacher.
Consider that your child may also ask other special people in their lives (grandparents, aunts/uncles, friends/neighbors) to clip/save their box tops for them too. This is a great way to boost their collection and an easy way for loved ones to support our school!

Parent Lunch Week
From our School Nurse
What a great start to the school year. Students are back and eager to learn. This is a great time to review some simple health items with you and your child.
Handwashing - the single best way to remove germs and avoid illness.WET-LATHER-SCRUB-RINSE-DRY
- The CDC refers to handwashing as a “do it yourself vaccine” in protection against disease.
- Speaking of vaccines...just a reminder as your child goes to the doctor for their check up, please obtain a copy of their recent immunizations. The state of Ohio requires, before the start of 7th grade, that your child have their Tdap and MCV immunizations.
- If your child has an open sore, make sure they are keeping it clean with soap and water and covered while they are at school. This is for the safety of those with a sore and others.
Free and Reduced Benefits
The roll off date for Free and Reduced benefits from the 2017-2018 school year is Septemeber 26th.
