Ms. Gebhard's 1st Grade Class
Make Yourself Proud!
There are so many fun things being celebrated in first grade this week!
Monday is our 100th day of school! We will be working on special activities throughout the day to celebrate our class being one hundred days smarter. Monday is also Chinese New Year, which we will be learning about throughout the week.
Friday we will have our Valentine's day card exchange. I sent home a letter Friday that included a class list for Valentine's. Please bring in enough cards for the class if you'd like to participate. I could also use a volunteer at 2pm and a treat for our celebration.
Upcoming Claxton Events:
2/22 - No School for Students
2/29 - Tea and Talk with the Superintendent for Claxton families 7:30-9am
3/15 - Chicken Dinner and Math Carnival
3/18 - Light the Night Auction at the Salvage Station
Our Learning Goals
Fundations: This week we are introducing how to mark the closed syllable words we have been learning. We will also focus on vowel teams (ai, ay, ee, ea, ey).
Writing: We are learning about how we can improve our writing using more details. We will work on editing.
Math: We are learning about place value (tens, ones). This will progress into greater than/less than next week.
Science: We will conclude our unit on force and motion this week working with gravity and friction.
Social Studies: We will learn about Chinese New Year and how this celebration is celebrated.
A look at last week...
Mrs. Cicotello, our speech teacher, visited our class to share about the legend of Groundhog Day and her experience visiting Punxsutawney.
