Phillip II
Spain
Phillip II
Charles V was the first unified king of Spain, and he was then followed by Phillip II. Charles V thought that ruling Spain was too much for one person and Phillip was happy to take the job. Phillip belonged to the Hapsbourg family. He was a devout Roman Catholic. His greatest accomplishment would be the fact that he ruled one of the world's largest empires. He married Mary Tudor of England. Phillip was not attracted to her at all, he just wanted to build a strong empire. He married Mary, and left. He stayed in Spain and only went to England occasionally. When Mary died, he was ecstatic and ready to take over England;s throne; but since he was never there they gave the throne to Elizabeth. He went to war with the Ottomans, Dutch, and finally England. he was defeated greatly in the war against England. He had come up with the Spanish Armada, and they tried three or four times to take over England from Queen Elizabeth I... he finally realized that was never going to happen, so he let it go.
Mary Tudor
Phillip's wife.... he wasn't really happy with this marriage at all.
