March 3rd, 2022
Message from Mrs. Carey!
Dear KES families,
Happy Thursday and hope this finds you well! The weather is great and looks like spring might not be too far off!! So exciting! Just a reminder that tomorrow is a 1:00 PM dismissal; it is also an early release for all staff.
For those families that aren't aware, POSITIVE REFERRALS are a BIG deal at KES! Students can earn them for displaying RESPECT for Self, Others, and Property; this is our KES Code of Conduct. We love the support from our KES families and we need your help! Please remind your child about making good choices, displaying great manners, and showing positive behaviors at home, school, and out in the community. Our students are very familiar with what this looks and sounds like in their classrooms, Unified Arts, the hallways, cafeteria, and playground. The ultimate goal is for EVERY student to earn a positive referral and positive call home for displaying these great character traits! (If your child hasn't already earned one!) Encourage them to strive for this!!
Great NEWS...the KES News is back!! Check out the link to our first edition below. Amazing job from our students! Looks like we may have a few newscasters in our future.
Don't forget...only a few more days to enter your students' recipe into "The Future Chef Event"! Recipes are due no later than March 7th. I know for a fact that we have some very talented chefs at KES. Check out the flyers attached to our message. Additionally, we have a ton of important information below so make sure you check out the rest of our newsletter!
Upcoming dates below:
- March 4th: 1/2 Day for students and staff

Future Chef is back!
I am excited to report that after a 2-year hiatus Sodexos' Future Chef competition is back! For those of you unfamiliar with this event, it is an opportunity for any aspiring 1st- 5th grade chefs to showcase their culinary skills in a county-wide competition. This year's event will be structured slightly differently than in years past. Rather than having mini qualifying rounds throughout the county, there will only be one event held on Wednesday, March 30th at Queen Anne's County High School.
Any interested student in grades 1-5 can submit a recipe and 5 lucky contestants will be chosen to compete on March 30th. Recipes MUST be submitted by March 7th to the cafeteria manager. A copy of the recipe card is attached and the cafeteria manager will also have blank recipe cards for students who are interested. Copies are also available in the front office.
