CJH Weekly Update
Staff - Week of May 11th
Updates
Thank you!
Thank you for all of your hard work during this last two week cycle. I know that many of you have been making contacts to families, reaching out and making accommodations and pulling our kids along. Thank you! The phone calls are not always easy and I know that some of you are spending your evenings reaching out when parents are available. Thank you!!
All of these contacts are making a difference. We were able to provide support and resources to families this week based on your referrals. We were able to set up welfare checks for some of our students with Officer Dan. Many kids we were just able to pull back in and help them engage in the work. Thank you!
Packet Planning
This week our last set of packets will be due on Tuesday. Copies will be made for all paper requests on Wednesday. We will spend those final 2 weeks helping our kids finish up the work that has been missed along the way.
Teaching and Learning
This week while working on scheduling, Tonya and Celeste ran a report that found that a large number of students have "blocked" messages from School Messenger. I would imagine that some may have been unintentional, but some I am sure were intentional. The take away from this is that we need to focus on "less is more". I know that everyone is well intentioned with messages and reminders that go out to students. Just remember that they are getting messages from 6-7 different teachers.
Remember as we get more comfortable with the online planning that the lessons should not be exceeding 30 minutes. This includes the reading or videos that are part of that lesson. If you think that the lesson is close to the time limit, it probably is. Lesson should be very focused and time limited.
Grading
The grading of assignments as collected or missing has been helpful to parents. This has triggered many students to get in and clean up missing assignments. If students are not listed on the packet list, go ahead and put in missing for the assignments. This will help trigger some of those families as well to either request packets or engage online.
Classrooms
We will be developing a schedule to allow each of you time to come in and work in your classrooms. We will plan a schedule with full day blocks that will allow for one person per hallway to work in their classrooms. I understand that some of you may want to come in to unpack/repack your classroom so that items are organized in a way that is most beneficial to you. At this point, we will be planning this around shampooing of carpets and other summer maintenance. We will make sure that everyone has the opportunity to spend the time that you need in your rooms.
Quick Resources for you:
- Students that are not engaging and not on paper packets - log them here.
- Paper Packet Requests that have been processed are listed here
- SE Accommodation Tracking Sheet - just a reminder that we need to continue to track any accommodations that you are providing for SE students.
