What are Fossils?

the remains or impression of a prehistoric organism preserved in petrified form or as a mold or cast in rock.

What type of rocks are fossils found in ?

Fossils are most commonly found in sedimentary rocks, but all sedimentary rocks are not necessarily fossiliferous.

How are fossils formed?

Fossils are formed when a plant or animal dies and gets harder over time and sometimes leaves imprints in the stone.

Examples of how fossils are formed?

  1. A dinosaur was walking when a T-Rex came and killed the dinosaur in a lake
  2. The dinosaurs body gets sunk to the bottom of the water
  3. The remains started to rot and got covered with mud
  4. The sediments helped engage the dinosaurs bones
  5. The bones slowly decayed and the chemicals in the bones were changed
  6. Erosion in the area slowly uncovered the dinosaurs bones
  7. The Scientists spotted the dinosaur
