STARS Classroom News

September 8 - September 11

What we learned last week...

Our anchor book was Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See? During table time we made our own Brown Bear book with all the different animals. We learned to identify the different colors of the animals in the book.

What's happening this week...

We will be starting a new book this week, Pete the Cat: Rocking in my School Shoes,as our anchor book. During table time this week we will be making some fun things that go along with our book. The kids will make a head band so they can be Pete the Cat.

Matt & Molly

We will start a new Matt & Molly story this week. It is Matt and Molly are on the Playground. They both want to swing, but there is only one swing available. Matt and Molly race to the swing. They both get to the swing at the same time. Matt grabs one rope and Molly grabs the other rope. They both want to swing first. The kids get to pick the ending, they will choose who gets to swing first.

(Matt and Molly stories are simple 4 part social stories used to help facilitate language and increase social skills; this includes sequencing parts of the story, identifying objects/people, and answering questions. Each story has simple yes/no and "wh" questions that go along with it.)

I am married and have three boys at home ages 11, 17 and 19. My oldest is adopted and has Autism and Down Syndrome, the next two are biological children (surprise!). All three are very active in sports.
