January Resolutions

Our Greenville Splash resolution for 2018 is to Be Great! Come to our workouts and events so we can help you to be great this year too! It's so much more fun to swim with friends and coaches, so set those alarms or make time in the evenings to swim with us.

We have a full year of exciting events, swim meets, travel events, adult learn to swim, group open water swims and so much more. USMS is implementing some new fitness events this year that we will offer during regular workout times and we want to start a breakfast club after Saturday workouts. We are looking for a few individuals that can volunteer to be on a meet planning committee for our summer meet and if you would like to help volunteer with adult learn to swim in April let Leslie know. If you have ideas for our team, just let our advisory board members know.

January is the time to renew or join United States Masters Swimming and to pay your Greenville Splash membership dues. See the links below.

Award Season

USMS Kerry O'Brien Coaches Award: Amy Browning

Amy Browning wins the very prestigious USMS Kerry O'Brien Coaches Award. This award is given to only a few coaches around the United States every year. It was awarded to Amy because of her committment to further the mission of USMS and her dedication to coaching and reinvigorating the program at the Greenville County Aquatic Complex. We truly appreciate your efforts for coaching and organizing events at Westside! And we believe you are the only coach in the whole United States that can make a functional workout with 20 swimmers in one long course lane!

Swimmer of the Year: Brenda Stephens

We are super excited to announce Brenda Stephens as our swimmer of the year. Brenda embodies a passion for everything she does in life. She first started swimming with us years ago in our First Splash program. But this year she was on fire! She got out of her comfort zone and decided to try her first swim meet at the Charlotte meet. She had such a great time she set the bar even higher. She wanted to try swimming the mile at our home long course meet. So she made sure to come over to Westside and fit in more workouts so she could practice swimming the mile. She then blasted that goal at our meet this past summer. Then she said, "Why not try open water swimming?" She had never done it before, but heck she jumped right in there and came to our group practice swims at Lake Jocassee. And then her hardest goal was to enter the Upstate Splash which she swam with confidence and ease through the rough water! She is such a team player and also volunteers for all of our events. Brenda is a remarkable person outside of the water too, where she is passionate about helping others by volunteering in Guatamela to teach English and academic skills to those in needy communities. She gives fully from her heart in her family and church life. We are so proud to have Brenda on our team!

Carolyn Moore wins the Dorothy Donnelly Service Award from USMS. This esteemed award is for Carolyn's diligence to years of service as the South Carolina LMSC records chair. Carolyn loves to give back not only to Greenville Splash but also to all swimmers in the South Carolina LMSC. We appreciate all your efforts for keeping the passion and vision of Greenville Splash and USMS alive in our community.
